For 3 Years Obama Did NOTHING About Flint’s Water Problem, Check Out What Trump Has Done In Only 2 Months

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver accepted an invitation to meet with President Donald Trump as he makes his way to Ypsilanti last Wednesday.

“I’m thankful that President Donald Trump reached out to me to discuss the Flint Water Crisis,” Weaver said. “I will be asking the President to do all things within his power to make our city whole and great again after the horrific man-made injustice that was caused here. I will not rest until the residents and businesses that I have the pleasure of serving are able to drink, cook and bathe with water straight from the tap which is a basic Human Right!”

Trump administration Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awards $100 million federal emergency grant to City of Flint, Michigan to replace Flint’s damaged water infrastructure. This grant will enable Flint to accelerate and expand its critical water infrastructure improvements, including replacing 6,000 lead pipes this year.

“We are excited and very grateful to receive these much needed funds,” said Flint Mayor Karen Weaver. “The City of Flint being awarded a grant of this magnitude in such a critical time of need will be a huge benefit. As we prepare to start the next phase of the FAST Start pipe replacement program, these funds will give us what we need to reach our goal of replacing 6,000 pipes this year and make other needed infrastructure improvements. We look forward to the continued support of the EPA and federal government,” Breitbart reports.

In a statement on Friday, Trump EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt said, “The people of Flint and all Americans deserve a more responsive federal government. EPA will especially focus on helping Michigan improve Flint’s water infrastructure as part of our larger goal of improving America’s water infrastructure.”

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, who has been under fire for being slow to react to the toxic Flint water, had this to say, ““I appreciate the EPA approving this funding to assist with Flint’s recovery. Combined with the nearly $250 million in state funding already allocated, this will help keep Flint on a solid path forward. It’s great to see federal, state and local partners continuing to work together to help with infrastructure upgrades and pipe replacements for the people of Flint,” according to Breitbart.

In 2015, Michigan officials switched Flint’s water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River to save money. Soon after, water from Flint faucets started to look, smell and taste awful. The water was brown and nasty.

To make matters worse, in violation of federal law, the Michigan state Department of Environmental Quality was not properly treating the water coming from the Flint River with a required anti-corrosive agent. The untreated Flint River water eroded the iron water main pipes. Then as the untreated water, flowing through the iron-corroded main, reached homes through lead pipes, the lead was leaching into the water.

Nearly half the homes in Flint have lead pipes. As a result of the untreated water, now thousands of children in Flint have lead poisoning which is an irreversible neurotoxin with devastating long-term effects.
