Medal of Honor recipient destroys fake news about transgender SEAL stopping Osama bin Laden

After President Trump decided to ban transgender Americans from serving in the Armed Forces, a fake news story about Osama bin Laden’s death went viral.

The Atlantic writer Annie Lowrey sent a tweet claiming that a transgender Navy SEAL earned a purple heart and bronze star while taking out Osama bin Laden.

She didn’t expect to be fact checked by Marine Sergeant Dakota Meyer.

For those who don’t know, Dakota Meyer was presented with the Medal of Honor after he disregarded orders and saved the lives of 36 US and Afgan troops from a Taliban ambush in 2009.

The SEAL in question is Kristen Beck, formerly Christopher T. Beck, a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer who made headlines when she came out as a trans woman in 2013. Beck was once a member of SEAL Team 6, but she was not serving with the unit during the famous raid that killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan in May, 2011.

Beck made headlines again this week when she called out Trump over his decision. “Let’s meet face to face and you tell me I’m not worthy,” she said in an interview with Business Insider. “Being transgender doesn’t affect anyone else,” Beck continued. “We are liberty’s light. If you can’t defend that for everyone that’s an American citizen, that’s not right.”

Lowrey’s attempt to support Beck may have caused more harm than good with a statement many consider “fake news.”

Meyer was quick to respond,

Other readers were quick to ask Meyer to back up his claims, his response was as epic as it was simple.

The comments that followed were absolutely hilarious,

Well played sir, well played.
