A Democratic Party candidate, Terry Andrew Heflin, has been arrested and charged with several felony counts related to alleged voter fraud.
The 45-year-old was running for a commission seat in Clay County, Alabama, and was taken into custody on Tuesday on seven counts of unlawful use of absentee ballots.
Each count carries a potential prison sentence of one to 10 years. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall revealed the arrest the day after Heflin surrendered himself to authorities.
The details surrounding the alleged voter fraud were not extensively disclosed in the news release from Marshall’s office.
“[Heflin] was charged with 7 counts of unlawful use of absentee ballots,” the release said.
“Specifically, the indictment alleges that Heflin falsified applications to vote absentee for multiple people and then used those people’s names to vote for himself by absentee ballot.”
“The case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Division,” the release continued. “No further information about the investigation or about Heflin’s alleged crimes may be released at this time.”
The arrest was utilized by more than just the state’s attorney general to emphasize the significance that state officials place on election security.
“I have been traveling this state and talking about absentee ballot application fraud and absentee ballot election fraud for years,” Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen said. “I have been clear from day one that I take election fraud seriously, and I was not kidding.
“When my office was made aware of what was happening in Clay County, we immediately referred the case to Attorney General Marshall for criminal prosecution.”
Heflin is currently listed as an inmate on the Clay County Jail roster, with his mugshot and a long list of voter fraud charges. Allegedly, the fraud took place during the March primaries.
Heflin’s victory in the primary race was narrow, with Decision Desk HQ reporting a margin of only 43 votes.
Although he is accused of casting seven fraudulent votes for himself, these do not fully account for the margin.
The state’s investigation may lead to additional charges against Heflin or others.
This isn’t Heflin’s first brush with the law. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and was sentenced to five years in prison, but served only two years.

Then people wonder why we don’t trust elections.
Whaaaaaat a Democrat arrested for voter FRAUD? I’m shocked, gob smacked & flabbergasted!!! not. It’s what they do. Lie, Cheat & Steal to win. Sad.
you are correct .. never ever trust a democrat …they are ruthless .
Biden is a disgusting pedophile pig. He has done nothing for anyone but his corrupt criminal family and destroyed everything he touches. He should be in prison and not be allowed around children. He us an embarrassment to Americans.
The fact that a democrat has been cheating in an election doesn’t surprise me as much as that he is being prosecuted and is already in jail. Those 45 votes he “won” by probably indicate that his friends are committing the same crime to the tune of hundreds of fraudulent votes.
Hey all how can this be. Biden and the democrats and media continue to stay there is no voting fraud. This story tells there is and who got caught a Democrat. I have lost my total faith in our current voting system.
Voting fraud should be a capital offense.
Must have gotten the idea from Fulton County Georgia officials
Now days when I see a man wearing a suit and tie one hand goes over my bill fold and the other over my concealed weapon..until I find out if he is a democrat or not..
