House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) abruptly pulled a crucial government funding bill from consideration just hours before its scheduled vote.
The bill, supported by former President Donald Trump and intended to tackle voter fraud through the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, was on the verge of becoming a significant win for conservatives advocating for election integrity.
Former President Donald Trump strongly endorsed the SAVE Act, emphasizing its importance and urging Congress to incorporate it into any government funding legislation.
He has also emphasized that he is prepared to support a government shutdown if the act is not included, underscoring his prioritization of electoral integrity over continuing funding for an oversized federal government.
“”If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Speaking on Monica Crowley’s podcast, Trump said, “I would shut down the government in a heartbeat if they don’t get it in the bill… If it’s not in the bill, you ought to close it up.”
However, once again, the ineffectual establishment Republicans, with Johnson at the helm, succumbed to pressure from RINOs and Democrats.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), one of the few remaining voices unafraid to challenge authority, criticized Johnson and the GOP leadership on Tuesday for engineering what she described as a “phony confrontation” in Washington.
Greene accurately highlighted that the RINOs had no genuine desire to push this bill forward and were more focused on placating their liberal counterparts than advocating for the American populace.
“The worst thing that Republicans in the House can do is create a fake fight that the base knows they’re lying about and frustrate our voters going in on November fifth,” Greene said. “That’s how you lose the House of Representatives,” Greene said.
“Just be honest. If [Johnson] already aligned himself with the Democrats back in May, did a two-part omnibus, just be honest and do what he’s going to do. But don’t have Conservatives like me that actually care about reducing our spending, that actually care about making changes, that actually care about doing the right thing for the American people, don’t make people like me go out and pretend like we’re fighting for something, because I’m not going to have any part of it.”
Johnson withdrew his six-month temporary funding proposal despite the strong push from Trump and his followers, as it became evident that resistance from Democrats and a few wavering Republicans would thwart the bill. CNN reports that at least eight House Republicans have openly opposed the bill, virtually guaranteeing its collapse.
No vote today,” Johnson told reporters, signaling yet another defeat for conservatives hoping for real change in Washington.
“We are having thoughtful conversations, family conversations within the Republican Conference and I believe we will get there,” he added.
“I want any member of Congress in either party to explain to the American people why we should not ensure that only US citizens are voting in US elections … It’s the most pressing issue right now, and we’re going to get this job done.”
However, the truth is that Johnson and his supporters have no plans to achieve that goal. Instead, they are satisfied with engaging in political games and perpetuating the never-ending pattern of appeasement that has characterized the GOP establishment for too many years.

He will cave in. This worthless Judas has no principles.
I have always said it isn’t a two party government and all that squalling about saving the democracy is a joke..because Russia and China are democracys means elected officials who make laws for everyone except themselves..republic is same except politicians have to go by a constitution that keeps everyone from over stepping their bounds..changed a little when presidents took to much power by making laws that were only supposed to be about emergency war powers used it for everything and no one to stop this abuse
DNC/GOP RINO uniparty M.F.’ers destroying the country.
I have to say I still DO NOT understand why we need the SAVE act to pass anywhere. Our United States Constitution which is the LAW of the entire United States clearly states (I will capitalize it for our government officials who do not seem to understand) states very clearly YOU MUST BE A UNITED STATES CITIZEN…YOU MUST BE A UNITED STATES CITIZEN TO VOTE IN A FEDERAL ELECTION. There is no if, ands, or but’s about it. It is a federal law and any state that does not adhere to this law, should be held accountable to federal law. Why is the law of the land being questioned, why are the politicians wasting our money to work on a SAVE act when there is already a FEDERAL law that you MUST be a citizen of the United States? Stop wasting our time, our money and do your damn job. Ensure that the constitution of the United States of AMERICA is enforced at every polling station across this nation. Again, WE DO NOT NEED a new act or law, it is already in place, FOLLOW IT!!!! Citizens of America, start making our government work for us, United States of America citizens. It is time WE take back OUR country, deport the illegals immediately. Think about this, even though they are illegals, their children born in the USA are automatically citizens so in 18 years from now, the impact of Democratic rulers will have given our country away.
Right or mostly wrong the Democrats stick together like glue. Gop fails to do so and thus they lose when it counts.
