Hunter Biden’s legal troubles may not be making as many headlines as earlier in the year, but they are far from over.
This week, a judge granted a request to delay his sentencing hearing in a gun-related case by three weeks, moving the date from November 13, shortly after Election Day, to December 4.
Hunter Biden’s legal team had asked U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika for the delay, citing scheduling conflicts with other pending cases.
Defense attorney Abbe Lowell, who is representing Biden in multiple cases, argued that he was spread too thin to prepare for the original sentencing date effectively.
The judge agreed, according to a report from The Washington Times.
The delay comes as Hunter Biden faces a busy legal calendar. Just a day before the original sentencing date, he is scheduled for a pretrial conference in an unrelated civil case on November 12.
Additionally, he has a sentencing hearing for federal tax-related charges in California set for December 16.
Hunter Biden was convicted in June on three felony charges related to firearm possession. He was found guilty of lying about his drug use on a federal form while purchasing a firearm and illegally possessing the gun as a drug addict.
The charges carry a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison and fines up to $750,000. However, given that he is a first-time offender, legal experts suggest his actual sentence may be far lighter.
President Joe Biden has publicly stated that he will not pardon his son or commute his sentence if it comes to that, but many remain skeptical.
Some believe that, despite his comments, the president may intervene if his son faces prison time.
Social media has been buzzing with speculation on the matter. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) have expressed doubt that Hunter Biden will serve any jail time.
One user wrote, “Daddy will take care of it,” while another confidently predicted, “Joe will pardon him in January before he leaves office. Bet the farm on that one.”
As Hunter Biden’s legal saga continues to unfold, all eyes will be on the courtroom in December to see how these cases are resolved.
