Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is facing increasing scrutiny for withholding records of her communications with the January 6 Committee, even after a court declared her in default. The Fulton County Superior Court’s decision on Tuesday marked a significant legal setback for Willis, as she failed to respond to an open records lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group.
At the heart of the case are questions about whether Willis collaborated with Special Counsel Jack Smith or the January 6 Committee during her investigation into former President Donald Trump and his associates. Judicial Watch’s lawsuit demands access to these communications, which could shed light on potential coordination between Willis and federal officials in the high-profile probe.
The court ordered Willis to conduct a thorough search of her records and provide all responsive materials within five business days. According to the order, Willis was required to disclose any documents or communications with the January 6 Committee and Jack Smith’s office unless they were legally exempt. Judicial Watch emphasized the importance of these records, citing a December 2021 letter in which Willis allegedly requested assistance from the January 6 Committee and offered to travel to Washington, D.C.
Despite the court’s directive, Willis’ office claimed that no records of communications with Jack Smith exist and that any communications with the January 6 Committee are exempt from disclosure under Georgia law. Her office cited attorney-client privilege, confidentiality, and the ongoing nature of the Trump-related investigation as reasons for withholding the documents.
Judicial Watch’s President, Tom Fitton, criticized Willis for what he described as “disingenuous secrecy.” He argued that the exemptions Willis cited are unjustified and that her refusal to disclose the records raises serious questions about her transparency. Fitton further pointed out that the investigation into Trump has stalled, weakening the rationale for withholding these documents.
“Judicial Watch and a state court forced Fani Willis to confirm additional documents exist about her collusion with the partisan Pelosi January 6 Committee to ‘get Trump,’” Fitton said. “But Willis, citing legal exemptions for a prosecution that’s essentially dead in the water, now wants to hide these records from the American public. Judicial Watch plans to push back in court against this disingenuous secrecy.”
Fani Willis’s investigation into Trump and 18 co-defendants has been mired in controversy since its inception. The probe centers on allegations that Trump and his allies attempted to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan launched his own investigation into whether Willis’s office coordinated with federal officials, further intensifying the scrutiny on her actions.
Jordan’s letter to Willis specifically requested all documents and communications between her office, the Department of Justice, and the January 6 Committee. He also questioned the timing of her investigation, suggesting it was politically motivated to coincide with Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
In response to the court’s order, Willis’s office provided only one public document—a letter she sent to January 6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson in December 2021. In the letter, Willis reportedly asked for assistance and coordination regarding her investigation. However, no additional non-public records were released, leading to accusations of stonewalling.
Willis’s team maintains that any withheld documents are protected under Georgia’s open records laws and are part of an ongoing criminal investigation. “The records are exempted/excepted from disclosure because they arose from the investigation, subsequent indictment, and prosecution in case number 23SC188947; are subject to attorney-client privilege; and are confidential work product,” her office stated.
The case has sparked heated debate among legal experts and political commentators. Critics argue that Willis’s lack of transparency undermines public trust in her office’s integrity. Supporters counter that her actions are consistent with standard legal practices for protecting sensitive information during ongoing investigations.
For Judicial Watch, the fight is far from over. The organization plans to challenge Willis’s refusal to disclose additional records, arguing that the public has a right to know whether political bias influenced her investigation into Trump.
As the legal battle continues, the controversy surrounding Fani Willis’s communications with the January 6 Committee highlights broader concerns about the intersection of law enforcement and politics in high-stakes cases. Whether the withheld records will ultimately come to light remains to be seen, but the court’s finding of default has undoubtedly added another layer of complexity to the unfolding drama.

Just arrest and disbar her. She is one attorney that thinks she is above the law and is going to be defiant because she knows she is going to lose. She is a proven liar, example when she said her and her lover WADE never did the sheet dance and they both were caught in that LIE, and that’s just one example of her perjury. But I for one am sick of the GOP sending her letters and refuses to take any real action.
Black privilege is where you are above the law. You are allowed to kill white people and you can do whatever the hell you want if you are black and especially if you are a Democrat, there are no laws enforced upon you. It is time we take back America and get rid of these racist pieces of s*** by hangings.
Fat Fanny Willis belongs in prison for her corruption and its not why but when she goes to prison. She lied to the court and judges she used campaign money for her sex vacation she hired her lover and paid him more than any other professional lawyer. She should be charged with election interference and wasting millions of taxpayers money on fraud charges against Trump. She’s going to get the deepest colonoscopy investigation ever and all her corruption is going to come out. Every person who worked with her are going to save their on asses because there also criminally involved. Fatty you will have a lot of friends where you’re going. Hope Trump sues you personally and the state of Georgia for millions of dollars.
Toss her in jail and give her time to consider her options. She was hell bent on doing that to Trump. Why should she get any better treatment. Too many crooked Democrats taking advantage of legal system to persecute conservatives. Time for a little payback. Put Bragg and fat Letitia in there with her. Toss Jack Smith in too and they will have four for bridge.
Lock Fanny up in prison raid her house with 15 armed federal swat officers at 2:00 in the morning with search warrants and arrest warrants. This black bitch needs a taste of her own medicine then raid her office for all her files and get warrants to search her fathers home because he’s a lying POS. Maybe then this bitch will understand that what she did is corruption and criminal fraud charges.
Her smart ass attitude and big lying mouth is her biggest problem. She also embezzled money. She’s a corrupt criminal that needs to be indicted now.
