Apple TV’s horror comedy “Widow’s Bay,” much of which was shot in Gloucester and Rockport, has been renewed for a second season after a dominant run at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
The series took home eight awards at the Creative Arts Emmys and six more at Monday’s Primetime ceremony, for a total of 14 wins this year — the most of any comedy series in a single Emmy cycle. That haul came from just seven of the show’s ten Season 1 episodes, since only those aired in time to qualify for 2026 voting. Episode 8 and the season finale were not eligible, leaving open the possibility of another strong Emmy showing in 2027.
The show also holds a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 106 critic reviews and has regularly topped Apple TV’s list of most-watched shows.
Where filming happened
Season 1 was primarily filmed in Massachusetts, including in Gloucester, Rockport, and other North Shore communities. Production ran from May to August 2025, ahead of the show’s April 2026 premiere.
What’s next for Season 2
Apple TV announced the renewal before Season 1 even finished its run, along with a new multi-year overall deal for creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold.
Apple TV’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, said in a press release: “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created. It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Dippold added: “Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.”
No official premiere date has been set. But cast member Kate O’Flynn, speaking to Collider at the Toronto International Film Festival, offered a hint about the filming schedule. “I know it’s hopefully March time, I think, we might be filming Season 2,” she said. “But I don’t know anything else about it, honestly.”
If production starts around that time, new episodes could potentially arrive in late 2027, though no date has been confirmed by Apple TV.
The series stars Matthew Rhys as Tom, Kate O’Flynn as Patricia, Stephen Root as Wyck, Dale Dickey as Rosemary, and Jeff Hiller as Dale. Season 1, consisting of ten episodes, is streaming on Apple TV.
