The second annual CBGB Festival returns to Brooklyn’s Under The K Bridge Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a lineup built around some of the biggest names in punk and alternative music, including Patti Smith, Morrissey, the Sex Pistols, Interpol and Bikini Kill.
The one-day event, running from 2 to 10 p.m. across the CBGB Stage and Hilly’s Stage, features 17 acts total. Also on the bill are Agnostic Front, Bad Nerves, Buzzcocks, Circle Jerks, Haywire, Mannequin Pussy, Upchuck, Militarie Gun, Panic Shock, Violet Grohl, Sleater-Kinney and Fred Armisen’s Ramones tribute act, The Return of Jackie and Judy.
The festival honors the legacy of Hilly Kristal’s original CBGB club — short for Country, Bluegrass, Blues — which closed nearly 20 years ago after serving as a launching pad for punk and new wave acts that rejected the mainstream music establishment of their era.
Last-minute tickets remain available. Single-day general admission passes were listed starting at $125 including fees on Vivid Seats at the time of publication. VIP general admission passes start at $416 including fees, with perks including main stage viewing, access to a VIP lounge and accelerated entry.
At last year’s inaugural festival, Gorilla Biscuits guitarist Walter Schreifels said of Kristal’s legacy:
Hilly would have been psyched. He loved music, and by virtue of that, he loved people. This [fest] is a recognition of that, by the name — but in fact, it’s bigger than that.
