LSU’s costumed mascot, Mike the Tiger, dressed up as horror icon Michael Myers during a recent appearance and was filmed stalking an on-field official in a scene straight out of the “Halloween” franchise, before an apparent LSU staffer stepped in to steer him away.
The stunt came during LSU’s bye week ahead of Saturday’s game against Auburn. With no game of their own to prepare for, the Tigers’ mascot team apparently decided to get a jump on Halloween by outfitting the costumed tiger character in the mask and coveralls of Michael Myers, the silent killer from the “Halloween” movies.
The getup is notable for its layers: a person in a tiger costume, wearing a Michael Myers costume, whose mask is itself famously a modified, white-painted William Shatner mask with the hair teased out — a production trivia detail from the original 1978 film that horror fans have long pointed to.
In the video, the costumed mascot creeps toward an official on the field in a slow, deliberate stalk reminiscent of Myers’ pursuit of Laurie Strode in the films. An individual who appears to be an LSU staff member is then seen intervening and leading the mascot away from the official.
The moment comes at a tricky point in LSU’s season. The Tigers already have two losses this year, putting pressure on their College Football Playoff hopes as they head into Saturday’s matchup with Auburn.
No further details were given on how the official reacted to the encounter or whether the costume will make another appearance before Halloween.
