Conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino strongly criticized the lenient tactics employed by Donald Trump’s Secret Service security detail following an assassination attempt on Saturday afternoon and the murder of a rally attendee.
Bongino specifically held United States Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle responsible for the security lapses.
I want to repeat, and can absolutely confirm, the USSS Director Kim Cheatle has repeatedly turned down requests for a larger security footprint around President Trump. Despite knowing the threat level is catastrophic.
Resign tonight. https://t.co/v3UQyTt1dK— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) July 14, 2024

When Bongino made these claims, they were not backed up by others, but Bongino is not known for making baseless accusations or inciting his followers.
As a former secret service agent, if he hints at having an inside source, it’s worth taking seriously.

Actively communicating with a number of former colleagues from the Secret Service about the assassination attempt. This is an obviously catastrophic failure and NO excuses should be made, or even attempted. The failures are profound and questions must be answered about ground surveillance, air surveillance, post-stander support, and counter-sniper advance work and response. We have ONE job, and we came within inches of a deadly failure today. An uneventful failure is NOT a success.
Shortly after Bongino made his posts, Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist, confirmed the information.
According to Davis’ sources, the Trump campaign had repeatedly requested increased Secret Service protection but had been turned down each time.

BREAKING: A source familiar with Trump’s security detail tells @FDRLST that the former and future president’s detail has been asking for beefed up protection and resources for weeks, but has been rebuffed time and again by Biden’s DHS.
DHS, which oversees Secret Service protective detail “wasn’t responsive to those requests” for more resources, the source said.
Was Biden’s regime behind the attack, or did it deliberately do everything it could to allow it to happen?

During a special episode of his podcast, Bongino strongly criticized Cheatle for her political grandstanding and called for her immediate resignation.

“It is time right now for Kim Cheatle to get her head out of her ass and do the right thing. I could tell you stories for days about her putting politics ahead of presidential protection.”
Just this past Sunday, Cheatle appeared on “ABC News This Week” with George Stephanopoulos and asserted with confidence that there are “no specific or credible threats” to be concerned about.

Following the recent assassination attempt on Saturday night, this interview exemplifies sheer hubris. Many are echoing Bongino’s demand for Cheatle to step down.
This is Kimberly Cheatle. She’s the Director of the Secret Service.
She needs to resign immediately and then testify before Congress about how this could have happened on her watch. pic.twitter.com/6W44EkhydX

Republican lawmakers in Congress have been urging for independent inquiries into the security lapses that allowed the assassination attempt to occur.
Additionally, the House Oversight Committee has extended an invitation to Cheatle to testify on Monday, July 22nd.

I’d rather read, “Biden administration appoints record number of extremely qualified, hard working, competent administration officials ever.”
