FBI Director Christopher Wray announced his resignation on Wednesday, stating he plans to step down at the end of January. His departure marks the end of a controversial tenure leading the bureau during a period rife with allegations of bias, overreach, and misconduct.
While some view Wray’s resignation as a step toward rebuilding trust in the FBI, others argue it’s far from enough. Among the critics is Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, who vowed to continue pressing for accountability at the bureau.
Wray, who took over the FBI in 2017, faced mounting criticism over the years for the agency’s actions under his leadership. From handling whistleblowers to accusations of politically motivated investigations, Wray became a lightning rod for controversy.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Rep. Jordan described Wray’s resignation as “great news” but emphasized that it does not absolve him of responsibility for alleged misconduct within the FBI.
“I mean, Chris Wray was, you know, investigating moms and dads who show up for school board meetings. He was putting out a memorandum saying, ‘If you’re a pro-life Catholic, you’re an extremist.’ The FBI retaliated against whistleblowers who came and gave us that kind of information. We learned yesterday that they were spying on congressional staffers and their metadata. And of course, he raided President Trump’s home,” Jordan said.
Jordan has been a vocal critic of the FBI’s actions under Wray’s leadership, using his role as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee to launch multiple investigations into the bureau and the Department of Justice (DOJ). His work has often focused on allegations of political bias, government overreach, and retaliation against whistleblowers.
Jordan and other critics have pointed to several key issues during Wray’s tenure:
- Targeting School Board Protests: The FBI faced backlash for investigating parents protesting at school board meetings, actions critics said infringed on free speech.
- Labeling Pro-Life Catholics as Extremists: Internal documents revealed that the bureau flagged pro-life Catholics as potential threats, sparking accusations of religious discrimination.
- Surveillance Overreach: Reports emerged that the FBI accessed private financial records and spied on congressional members and staff.
- Retaliation Against Whistleblowers: Whistleblowers who exposed internal misconduct reported facing retaliation, adding to concerns about the agency’s accountability.
- Mar-a-Lago Raid: The FBI’s unprecedented raid on former President Donald Trump’s Florida residence drew sharp criticism from conservatives, who viewed it as politically motivated.
Despite Wray’s pending resignation, Jordan made it clear that his committee’s oversight efforts are far from over. “Oh, yeah,” he said when asked if investigations into the FBI would continue.
Jordan also suggested that upcoming reports from the inspector general could reveal even more about alleged misconduct within the bureau. “There’s, we think, reports coming that are going to, you know, shed even more light on what’s been going on,” Jordan added.
His comments highlight ongoing frustration among conservatives who feel that despite high-profile investigations, meaningful consequences for alleged wrongdoing have been scarce.
As Wray’s resignation looms, the focus has already shifted to who might lead the FBI next. Former President Donald Trump wasted no time in announcing his pick: Kash Patel, a close ally and former senior advisor to the Director of National Intelligence.
Trump’s proposed appointments reflect a clear vision for reshaping the federal law enforcement landscape. In addition to Patel as FBI director, Trump has floated the idea of appointing former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as Attorney General.
Supporters of these picks believe they will bring a more aggressive approach to combating the perceived politicization of federal agencies. With new leadership in key positions, they hope to see reforms that ensure accountability and prevent the kind of controversies that have plagued Wray’s tenure.
The fallout from Wray’s resignation could have significant implications for the future of federal law enforcement. For critics like Jordan, it’s an opportunity to push for deeper accountability measures.
“Americans deserve better,” Jordan tweeted after Wray’s announcement. He listed grievances against the FBI, from censorship to surveillance, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness in the bureau’s operations.
Jordan’s oversight efforts, coupled with potential leadership changes under a Trump administration, could reshape how the FBI operates in the coming years.
With Wray stepping down and Kash Patel potentially stepping in, the future of the FBI is poised for significant change. But for now, the focus remains on holding the bureau accountable for its past actions.
As Jordan and his committee continue their investigations, the American public will be watching closely to see whether this moment leads to real accountability or remains another chapter in the ongoing saga of partisan conflict.

Chris Wray was the catalyst behind the Hunter Biden Laptop coverup. The FBI had that laptop a year before the NY Post got it. THe FBI knew what was on that laptop, and lied to the AMerican people about it for political reasons. Chris Wray should be retired and a rank where he served honorably, and that is not as Director of the FBI.
The words “The Honorable” should have been crossed out in front of his name.
When a person is held to a higher standard of conduct they need to be held to a much higher standard of responsibility and accountability. It may be a stretch to have them incarcerated but if they are guilty of failure to perform these duties honestly they should do a stretch.
Destroy Wrays legacy this prick belongs in prison for life. He’s the one that overflowed the cesspool he’s the biggest corrupt leader that destroyed legal democrats and was hiding investigation documents and reports. He’s one of the most swamp cesspool creatures. He lied constantly in court or wouldn’t answer direct questions. Indicate and subpoena him on day one so we can send him to prison for life these scumbags are finally going to get what they deserve. You can’t screw the dog and get away with it. Can’t wait to see Wrays balls nailed to a stump and pushed over backwards
Hanging time is up the road! Figuratively and perhaps literally!
Chris Wray and the rest of the Biden Admin must meet up with a rope bowtie.
