A massive brawl involving around 100 students erupted at Englewood STEM High School on Chicago’s South Side on Friday, forcing a heavy police response and leaving at least four officers injured. The chaos, which unfolded across three floors of the school just before noon, has sparked fresh concerns among parents about the ongoing violence plaguing the campus.
Cell phone footage circulating on social media captured the pandemonium as students swarmed the hallways, and officers struggled to de-escalate the situation. In the videos, students can be seen shouting and pushing, while law enforcement works to regain control amid the disorder.
Chicago police confirmed five arrests were made following the incident, though specific charges have yet to be disclosed. Authorities also confirmed that while no weapons were involved, several students sustained minor injuries during the melee.
The incident occurred near 68th Street and Normal Avenue and triggered an immediate lockdown. Concerned parents rushed to the school upon hearing of the brawl, desperate to ensure their children were safe.
Julnita McCoy, whose daughter attends Englewood STEM, learned of the incident directly from her child. “My daughter called me and told me it was a huge fight at her school, and they had the building on lockdown,” McCoy recounted.
McCoy described the panic her daughter experienced after pepper spray was reportedly used during the fight. “She said, ‘I have to go to the bathroom and wash my face because my face has mace all in it.’ How did a student even come in the building with some mace anyway?”
Corey Johnson, another parent, revealed that his 15-year-old son was handcuffed during the chaos. “He said it was a girl fight at first, and then it just hit so big that everybody started fighting,” Johnson explained.
The incident has reignited frustration among parents, who say fights are far too common at Englewood STEM. “At this school, every time you turn around, it’s fights all the time,” Johnson said. “It’s ridiculous that the kids can’t even feel safe at school.”
A large police presence surrounded the school as the situation escalated, with multiple squad cars lined up outside the main entrance. Officers worked to contain the scene, confirming that while no serious weapons were found, the sheer scale of the brawl posed a major challenge.

Four police officers sustained injuries while responding to the fight, though officials have not provided further details on the nature of those injuries.
The brawl has intensified demands for solutions to address school violence. Many parents are now questioning what steps school administrators and the city will take to improve safety at Englewood STEM.
The incident is not an isolated event, according to parents like McCoy and Johnson, who claim violence has become a recurring problem at the school. Frequent fights, poor supervision, and a lack of effective disciplinary measures have left families frustrated and worried for their children’s well-being.
“I send my daughter to school to learn, not to fear for her safety every day,” McCoy stated. “Something has to change because this is out of control.”
The use of pepper spray during the incident has also raised questions about security protocols and how prohibited items are making their way into the school. Parents want clear answers from administrators about what steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Chicago police have not yet shared updates on whether additional security measures will be implemented at Englewood STEM following the brawl. The investigation into what triggered the fight, as well as the circumstances surrounding the five arrests, remains ongoing.
Authorities have also not confirmed whether the students involved will face disciplinary action within the school system.
The focus now turns to the broader issue of violence in Chicago schools and what steps can be taken to create a safer environment for students and staff. Parents are demanding not only accountability but also tangible solutions to prevent these large-scale disruptions from happening again.
The violent scene at Englewood STEM highlights a troubling trend of growing tensions in schools, leaving both parents and students feeling on edge. While the brawl has made headlines, the underlying issues—whether they be insufficient supervision, security lapses, or broader social challenges—must be addressed to restore safety and stability on campus.
As investigations continue, parents like McCoy and Johnson are left grappling with difficult questions. “What’s it going to take for them to get serious about this?” Johnson asked. “Are we waiting for someone to get seriously hurt?”
For now, Englewood STEM High School remains under a cloud of uncertainty as Chicago police, administrators, and parents look for answers and solutions in the aftermath of this shocking incident.

In today’s society we have security cameras every where. Why don’t we have cameras in every school classrooms so parents at any time can see and hear what these teachers are teaching our kids. Cameras and voice recognition should be where a parent at any time can look at there phone or computer and hear and see what’s going on this is bullish-t we have no clue what they are being told or be shown at schools. This would make sure that the teachers are above board in teaching properly
