A video circulating on social media this week showed a truck parked outside Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell’s home in Tallahassee, sparking speculation among fans that the embattled coach was preparing to leave. The clip spread quickly on X and on FSU’s subreddit, with some fans treating it as evidence that a coaching change was finally underway.
It isn’t. Most observers who reviewed the footage identified the vehicle as an ordinary delivery truck, not a moving van, and there is no indication Norvell is leaving his position or his house.
The rumor took hold against a backdrop of real turmoil in FSU’s athletic department. The university recently fired athletic director Michael Alford, the administrator who negotiated Norvell’s contract extension — a deal that made him extremely costly to fire. That buyout, reported at nearly $50 million, remains a central obstacle for any Florida State effort to part ways with Norvell.
According to Yahoo Sports reporter Ross Dellenger, Florida State’s leadership is still not willing to absorb that buyout figure, a signal that any coaching change is unlikely in the near term regardless of fan sentiment.
For now, the moving-truck story appears to be a case of wishful thinking outrunning the facts. Norvell remains FSU’s head coach, and there has been no announcement suggesting that will change.
