Nebraska and Notre Dame announced Wednesday morning that the two football programs will meet in a home-and-home series in 2032 and 2033, giving fans years of advance notice to plan for one of the sport’s more historic matchups.
Notre Dame will travel to Lincoln to face Nebraska on Oct. 30, 2032. The following year, Nebraska will head to South Bend to play the Fighting Irish on Oct. 29, 2033.
“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said in a statement. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues. We are excited to welcome Notre Dame and their fans to Lincoln in 2032, and I know our fans will travel to South Bend in full force in 2033.”
The 2032 matchup will mark the first time the two programs have played since Nebraska beat Notre Dame 27-10 in Lincoln on Sept. 8, 2001. It will be only the third meeting between the schools since 1948. Nebraska holds an 8-7-1 edge in the all-time series.
Both Teams Off to Strong Starts in 2026
The scheduling announcement comes as both programs sit at 2-0 to open the 2026 season. Nebraska has posted home wins over Ohio (49-21) and Bowling Green (56-7). Notre Dame, ranked No. 3 in the AP poll, has beaten Wisconsin 41-13 at Lambeau Field and shut out Rice 52-0 at home.
Nebraska opens Big Ten play on the road against Michigan State on Sept. 26 and still faces four AP Top 25 opponents this season: Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State and Iowa. Notre Dame has three ranked opponents remaining on its schedule: BYU, Miami and SMU.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman have each signed new contracts with their schools within the past year. Rhule is a combined 21-19 since taking over in 2023, while Freeman is 45-12 since 2021, a stretch that included a trip to the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.
