Fiona Lowe, the 13-year-old daughter of actor Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, died at a Los Angeles hospital on Sept. 29, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office. The office ruled her death a suicide.
Fiona was the middle of the couple’s three daughters. Her 17-year-old sister, Mabel, posted a tribute on Instagram over the weekend alongside a carousel of photos of the two of them together.
“I love you so much fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and i hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, i hope you knew just how much.”
The post drew condolences from several family friends in the entertainment industry. Jeremy Renner wrote, “Bless you dear Mabel. My deepest condolences to you and the family.” Jessica Capshaw called it “a beautiful tribute” and said she had been keeping the family “in my thoughts and prayers.” Kimberly Williams Paisley wrote that she had been “sending you prayers and so much love,” and Selma Blair added, “I wish for so much for you in her memory.”
Lowe and Painter, who have been together for nearly two decades and have largely kept their family life out of the public eye, released a statement through Page Six on Tuesday.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance. She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
The family closed their statement by urging anyone dealing with mental health struggles to reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Lowe, brother of actor Rob Lowe, is an Emmy-winning actor and director known for his work on “Life Goes On,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “9-1-1: Lone Star.” Painter has worked as a producer and casting professional on projects including “Enemy of the State,” “Ted Bundy” and “Instant Dads.”
