University Lab’s football team routed Collegiate 62-0 on Friday night in a game that put junior quarterback Knox Kiffin, son of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, back in the national spotlight.
Kiffin, who already holds offers from Syracuse, Missouri and Georgia Tech, threw touchdown passes during the blowout that quickly circulated online. One scoring play showed Kiffin finding a receiver with little pressure from the Collegiate defense, while another touchdown featured a receiver delivering a forceful hit on a defender near the goal line.
The lopsided score and apparent lack of pass rush drew comparisons to the scrutiny faced by Texas quarterback Arch Manning, whose high school highlight tapes have been revisited and criticized whenever he struggles at the college level. A comment under a social media post of the Kiffin highlights read: “This dude is the next arch manning, lmao. What’s this competition he’s playing against?”
Despite the skepticism over the quality of competition, Kiffin has posted strong performances at multiple points this season. He is also coached, informally, by his father, the LSU head coach, who has his own track record developing quarterbacks at the college level.
University Lab’s win keeps the Cubs rolling as Louisiana high school teams move into the final stretch of the regular season ahead of the playoffs next month.
