Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on CNBC Thursday morning following Hurricane Milton’s landfall near Tampa as a Category 3 storm.
The interview took a sharp turn when host Andrew Ross Sorkin attempted to accuse DeSantis of politicizing the disaster, referencing that DeSantis didn’t take a call from Vice President Kamala Harris.
Sorkin implied that DeSantis was playing politics by avoiding communication with Harris. DeSantis quickly shut down the accusation, making it clear that he wasn’t aware Harris had attempted to contact him.
“I didn’t even know she called,” DeSantis remarked, brushing off the notion of Harris’ involvement. He also pointed out that she has not been significantly involved in past disaster responses, questioning the timing of her criticism.
DeSantis has been actively managing the response to back-to-back hurricanes hitting Florida in recent weeks and dismissed Sorkin’s question as irrelevant in the face of the state’s current needs.
The exchange highlights the growing political tension as natural disasters become points of contention in national conversations, with both sides trying to frame their responses in the best light as the 2024 election looms.
Governor Ron DeSantis: “I didn’t even know she was trying to reach me, but she has no role in this process… and I’ve been dealing with these storms in Florida under both Trump and Biden. Neither of them ever politicized it.”
“What she’s doing is she’s trying to inject herself into this because of her political campaign.”
“So as the governor here, who’s leading this, I don’t have time for those games. I don’t care about her campaign.”
“She doesn’t understand what it means to respond to these natural disasters.”

While Governor DeSantis was dealing with TWO major natural disasters, Kamala has been drinking beer with Colbert.
And now the media wants to paint DeSantis as the bad guy! Ridiculous!
