The Los Angeles Dodgers now trail the Milwaukee Brewers three games to none in the National League Championship Series after a 6-2 loss at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night, a defeat accompanied by widely shared video showing noticeably empty sections in the upper decks.
The loss came in Game 3 of the NLCS, with a potential elimination game scheduled for Thursday night at Dodger Stadium. Footage from the broadcast, which circulated online afterward, showed sparse crowds in the upper deck well into the later innings of the game, prompting commentary about attendance at what is typically considered one of baseball’s marquee franchises.
Tickets for Thursday’s Game 4 were available on the resale site StubHub for as low as $80 at the time of the Fox News Outkick column that first drew attention to the empty seats.
The column, written by an Outkick commentator, dismissed common explanations for low turnout, including Los Angeles traffic and ticket costs, noting that the empty seats were visible by the sixth inning and that affordable tickets were readily available for the following game.
By contrast, the piece praised atmosphere at Milwaukee’s American Family Field, suggesting Brewers fans had shown up in greater numbers relative to the stakes of the series.
The Dodgers, who have reached recent World Series appearances in a run some commentators have described as a potential three-peat bid, now face the prospect of elimination as they try to overcome the 3-0 series deficit against Milwaukee.
