The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail-style device at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in downtown Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Investigators say the attempted arson occurred around 8:15 p.m. at the multi-story brick building, which houses ICE offices and an immigration court and is surrounded by a metal fence. The device caused only minor damage to grounds adjacent to the building, and the structure itself sustained no visible damage. No injuries were reported.
The FBI said the device did not burst into flames. Agents said they are reviewing evidence and following leads as the investigation continues.
Ted Turner Drive was shut down while federal agents and an evidence response team processed the scene. The road reopened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Suspect Description
The FBI released surveillance photos and a detailed physical description of the suspect, described as a man with a slender to athletic build, medium to dark complexion, and dark, textured hair that is fuller on top with tapered sides. He wore thin, dark-rimmed rectangular or oval eyeglasses, had light facial stubble along his jawline and upper lip, and had a white cord hanging from his right ear down his neck.
Surveillance images show him wearing a black short-sleeved crewneck T-shirt with white inner collar trim, white sleeve cuff tipping, and a white left-chest print featuring four to five stacked curved bars resembling a ribcage or stylized lettering. He also wore tan cargo jogger pants with a drawstring waistband and left-thigh pocket, black athletic sneakers, and a dark wristband on his right arm. He was seen carrying a white plastic grocery bag holding dark contents.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the FBI as the investigation into the attack on the federal immigration facility continues.
