Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, encountered a hostile reception during her recent guest appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The 84-year-old Democrat from California, who had just been at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, was interrupted by anti-Israel protesters while discussing the Israel-Hamas conflict and cease-fire negotiations.
As she began talking about her book “The Art of Power,” the conversation abruptly shifted to the Middle East crisis. A protester shouted “Free Palestine,” challenging the U.S. involvement in the conflict.
This interruption prompted Colbert to cut to a break, promising to address the protesters’ concerns with Pelosi before doing so.
Following the break, Pelosi addressed the recent cease-fire agreement accepted by Israel, expressing optimism for Hamas to do the same. She reiterated her belief that “War has no place in a civilized society” and stressed the importance of trust, peace, and understanding over violence.
Despite her remarks, another protester disrupted the event, leading Colbert to acknowledge the discontent among some audience members.
Colbert encouraged the crowd to listen, explaining that the protesters were upset about the U.S. supplying arms to Israel, which they felt were being used against the people of Gaza.
Pelosi defended Israel’s right to self-defense, particularly in response to the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.
She also advocated for a two-state solution as the best path to long-term peace in the region, allowing both Israel and Palestinians to coexist securely.
The disruptions persisted as Pelosi tried to continue speaking. Eventually, Colbert intervened and asked the protesters to refrain from interrupting before wrapping up due to the live broadcast nature of the show.
Pelosi’s time at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was similarly challenging. Tension and uncertainty pervaded during Joe Biden’s appearance. Pelosi was seen awkwardly joining a “We love Joe” chant—a departure from her usual confidence.
The chant seemed more like a forced display of unity rather than genuine enthusiasm.
Pelosi’s subdued participation reflected her private concerns about Biden’s ability to lead the party to victory in upcoming elections.

Privately, Pelosi had been pressuring Biden to consider stepping down, concerned that his re-election campaign could be detrimental to other Democrats seeking office.
She was worried that Biden’s ongoing candidacy might harm the party as a whole, potentially jeopardizing important seats and even the presidency.
Pelosi’s attempts to encourage Biden to withdraw were described as persistent and forceful.
However, when pressed about these tensions, Pelosi attempted to downplay any notion of a rift, offering a vague justification for her actions.
“Sometimes you have to take a punch for the children,” she remarked to CNN, a statement that did little to mask the underlying discord.
Pelosi’s attempt to balance her public support for Biden with her behind-the-scenes efforts to safeguard the party’s future was evident.
This situation raised doubts about the Democrats’ ability to present a united front as they approached a crucial election season.

Can’t identify what a woman is? Paying billions to “illegal migrants using taxpayers money, while many of American citizen taxpayers are struggling to make rent and mortgage and put food on their children’s table? How does anyone with any common sense vote for these people? Hate Trump all you want, but he’s for all of the legal citizens in this country. My life was a lot better when he was President and I’ll bet everyone else was as well. No, I’m certainly not Trumps biggest fan, but I won’t vote for a President because I don’t like the other guy. I vote for who I think will be best for the country, and it certainly isn’t Harris.
