Country singer Luke Combs says he is down 30 pounds since his last hunting trip, an update he shared while on an elk hunt in Utah this week.
Combs appeared in a vlog posted to the Leupold Optics YouTube channel, where he opened by telling viewers he had been looking forward to the trip for a long time before revealing the weight loss.
“I’m down 30 pounds since last time. You probably can’t tell because the camera adds 30 pounds, but I am down a little bit from last time,” Combs said.
The singer said getting healthier has become a central goal, tied directly to wanting to perform better in the field. He referenced an earlier elk hunt in New Mexico as a turning point.
“But this has been one of the big motivators for me. To come here, you know, I got up and down with the guys in New Mexico last year enough to get by, but I can always be better. I just really wanted to be able to hold my own out here and not half-a– anything. I want to earn it,” Combs said.
Going into the Utah trip, Combs said his goal was to tag a mature elk, ideally with a bow. He was not able to make a bow kill, but he did take an elk with a rifle before the vlog ended.
A long-running struggle
Combs has spoken publicly before about his weight as a lifelong challenge. In a 2022 interview with Apple Music, he said becoming a father reshaped his thinking about his health.
“This having a kid thing has really messed up my head on this thing in the best way. I want to be around, dude. Do you know what I mean?” he said.
He also pointed to genetics as a factor, while acknowledging his own habits play a role too.
“It was always something that’s bugged me … especially when you’re younger. You’re like, ‘Man, I just got a horrible genetic dice roll on this thing.’ … I’m not trying to say it’s not my fault, because it is in a lot of ways. But also, I got to this point where I’m like, ‘Man, I’d really love to trim down.’ And it’s so hard for me to do that,” Combs said.
Combs and his wife, Nicole, have three sons: Tex, Beau and Chet.
In a 2023 appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Combs framed the weight loss as a personal challenge he was determined to meet on his own terms.
“Because there’s this thing that I wanna accomplish that is solely up to me. Nobody else can do it for me. Nobody did this to me. I want so badly to conquer that, and I will,” he said.
