Ash Santos, who plays Andrea Cruz on CBS’s “Marshals,” says she would welcome a crossover between her show and Taylor Sheridan’s other Yellowstone spinoff, “Dutton Ranch.” Santos’s character is a teammate of Luke Grimes’s Kayce Dutton.
“How iconic would that be?” Santos told Decider in a recent interview. “It’s funny, I have seen Dutton Ranch, and I think the world of Kelly [Reilly] and Cole [Hauser] as actors. Beth and Rip are some of the most iconic characters in television,” she said. “I think they’re written so wonderfully, and there’s so much depth in their partnership on screen that people really resonate with.”
Both spinoffs ended their first seasons on similar notes, fueling speculation among fans about a Season 2 event that would bring Kayce (Grimes), Beth (Reilly) and Rip (Hauser) together in Texas to protect their sons, Tate (Brecken Merrill) and Carter (Finn Little). That didn’t happen in the “Marshals” Season 2 premiere, and Grimes has confirmed Beth and Rip won’t appear on “Marshals” this fall. “Dutton Ranch,” set largely in Montana, is expected to film its second season in 2027, leaving the door open for a future crossover.
Asked directly whether she’d want to see it happen, Santos said, “Hopefully. It would be cool. I agree with the fans. It’s hard not to want that, especially because Kayce was so close with Beth, and they had such an interesting brother-sister dynamic. I’m like, ‘Who wouldn’t want to see that?'”
Grimes has also left the possibility open. “It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point,” he told TV Insider. “Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk.” He added that he and Reilly have discussed the idea directly: “[Kelly and I have] texted about it back and forth a lot, talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end.”
Reilly and Hauser voiced similar hopes earlier this year in their own conversation with TV Insider. “What I will say is I’d love to work with Luke. We saw him in New York for the Upfronts, Kelly and I both, and I just love him, man. I miss him,” Hauser said, to which Reilly replied, “I miss him too.”
“Go find our sons,” Reilly said, adding that Beth misses her brother and that she and Hauser are “fighting for” a path to reunite with other former Yellowstone cast members.
Hauser said he hopes for “a way to somewhere down the road do something special where he comes and visits us or if we go to Montana.” Reilly also recalled the close bonds formed on the original “Yellowstone” set with Wes Bentley, who played Jamie, and Kelsey Asbille, who played Monica Dutton, both of whose characters are gone from the story — Jamie in “Yellowstone’s” finale, and Monica revealed to have died of cancer in the “Marshals” Season 1 premiere.
Other Yellowstone veterans, including Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty, have already crossed over by reprising their roles on “Marshals.” Reilly has also told The Dallas Morning News that Sheridan plans to be more directly involved with “Dutton Ranch” Season 2, which some fans see as another sign a crossover could eventually come together.
For now, there’s no confirmed plan for the two shows to meet on screen. “Marshals” Season 2 is airing on CBS, with episodes also streaming on Paramount+.
