A Georgia woman, missing for weeks, has been found alive in California’s Sierra Nevada. Tiffany Slaton, aged 27 and from Jefferson, was discovered by the owner of the Vermilion Valley Resort near Lake Edison. He noticed one of his cabins was occupied and found Slaton inside, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
“She pops out, didn’t say a word, just ran up and all she wanted was a hug,” said Christopher Gutierrez, the property owner. It was a surreal moment for him as he realized who she was. Slaton had been reported missing by her family on April 29 after they hadn’t heard from her for nine days.
The discovery brought relief to her family who had been worried sick. Slaton was found “dehydrated, but was otherwise in good condition,” investigators said. Deputies identified her after meeting with Gutierrez, who had escorted her to a safer location.
Due to heavy snow, the road from Kaiser Pass back to Lake Edison was initially impassable. Police said snowplows cleared the path to the resort on Wednesday, allowing for the summer opening preparations. Gutierrez had left a cabin unlocked as a precaution for someone in need, which proved life-saving for Slaton.
Slaton’s father, Bobby, expressed immense joy upon hearing the news of his daughter’s safety. “This has to be the third or fourth best day of our lives after our children’s births,” he said. The family extended their gratitude to the Fresno sheriff’s department and the local community for their tremendous support.
The community’s efforts in searching for Tiffany were described as outstanding. “A ton of weight has been lifted,” Bobby Slaton shared, thankful for the outcome. He couldn’t thank the search and rescue teams enough for their relentless work.
Fredrina, Slaton’s mother, recalled the moment they learned about Tiffany’s safety while shopping for clothes. She was overcome with emotion and hugged a stranger in tears. The moment was overwhelming, marking the end of a distressing period for the family.
On her way down from the mountain, Tiffany managed to call her family once she got a cell signal. Her father recounted the emotional call where she assured him she was alive. “I just thank God for that moment because prayers were answered,” Bobby said.
Police had conducted an extensive search from May 6 to May 10, covering nearly 600 square miles. Despite their efforts, they found no trace of Tiffany or her belongings at the time. The family had been anxiously awaiting any news during this period.
Bobby and Fredrina were shopping when Tiffany’s call came, bringing them immense relief. Detectives are now planning to meet with Tiffany to learn more about her experience. They aim to understand her timeline of events during the ordeal.
The Slatons’ story highlights the unpredictability of life and the power of community support. The family’s patience and the relentless efforts of search teams culminated in Tiffany’s safe return. The unlocked cabin served its purpose, providing shelter when it was desperately needed.
For the Slatons, this experience has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Their gratitude towards the local community and authorities is profound. The unexpected reunion with their daughter is a testament to hope and resilience.
Tiffany’s survival story underscores the importance of preparedness and community vigilance. The unlocked cabin policy at the resort proved to be a life-saver. This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable challenges nature can present.
The Slatons’ ordeal has finally come to a joyous end. Their reunion is a celebration of life and community spirit. Tiffany’s safe return is a beacon of hope for others facing similar uncertainties.

Absolutely!!!
Thanks to the Lord Jesus!
Uh, a little background to the story would be helpful. Was she hiking? In a car and got stuck in the snow? I’m glad she was rescued, but some information about what prompted the concern and search would be nice.
