Placer County planners have signed off on a 25-acre surf resort proposed for the Sacramento-area suburbs, clearing the way for a private development that includes a man-made wave lagoon, hotel, skate park and action-sports facilities.
The Alchemy Surf Resort, developed by Inland Surf Company, is planned as part of the larger Placer One development in west Placer County. The site, currently vacant land, is set to be converted into a hospitality and recreation destination anchored by a 5-acre surf lagoon and a separate standing wave pool, along with beaches and activity areas.
Plans also call for a 100-room hotel, guest bungalows and a 28,390-square-foot surf center. For visitors not interested in the water features, the resort will include an outdoor skate plaza, a children’s playground, spas, cold plunges and an action-sports building with trampolines, climbing walls and indoor skating.
The property will also feature several “side shore” hubs offering food, drinks, shopping, and gathering and member spaces.
“Alchemy Surf Resort represents another step in the development of the Placer One area and adds a new recreational and hospitality use to the mix of uses planned for west Placer,” said Placer County Planning Director Chris Pahule. “The project has gone through the county’s planning and review process, and the approved plans provide a framework for the applicant to provide a unique recreational destination business to the community.”
The surf resort is one piece of the broader Placer One project, which is planned to eventually include housing, schools, parks, businesses, open space and a town center. The project area is also expected to house the future Sacramento State Placer Center and a county forensics lab.
Local business owners are watching the project with interest. Gauravdeep Chima, who owns Farms’ Pizza near the proposed site, told ABC10 the development stands to bring new customers to the area.
“The development is going to bring a lot of people, tourists,” Chima said. “One of the reasons we are feeling grateful for being here is that there’s so much that is coming to the north of us, right? There is so much development that’s going to happen.”
Questions have been raised about the resort’s water demands, given its location well inland from any ocean or major water feature of its own scale. The Placer County Water Agency has said it has both the capacity and the planned infrastructure to meet the project’s anticipated needs.
Inland Surf Company is targeting a groundbreaking in spring 2027.
