As speculation builds over Donald Trump’s plans for his potential return to the White House, a new report reveals that one of his first actions as president could be an executive order removing all transgender servicemembers from the U.S. military. Sources within the defense community suggest this directive would represent a more sweeping version of Trump’s previous policy on transgender military service, impacting both recruitment and active-duty personnel.
According to The Times, the proposed executive order could be issued on January 20, the day Trump is inaugurated, targeting approximately 15,000 transgender servicemembers. The plan reportedly includes medically discharging transgender individuals under the claim of unfitness for duty, regardless of their tenure or contributions to the armed forces.
This policy would mark a significant escalation from Trump’s earlier actions during his first term. In March 2018, Trump issued a ban preventing most transgender individuals from joining the military while allowing those already serving to remain under limited conditions. President Joe Biden rescinded this ban upon taking office in 2021, allowing transgender individuals to openly enlist and serve in the military once again.
Should the executive order take effect, it would not only block transgender individuals from joining the military but also remove those who have been serving for years, possibly even decades. The timing of this potential policy has raised additional concerns, as the military currently faces significant recruitment challenges. Critics argue that a blanket ban on transgender service could exacerbate these issues.
Defenders of Trump’s proposed policy claim that transgender individuals may impose undue costs and readiness challenges on the military. They point to medical treatments like hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgeries, which are often covered by military healthcare plans, as evidence that such individuals may not be “battle-ready” under traditional definitions of military fitness.
However, these claims are contested. Stephanie Miller, the former director of military accession policy, stated in 2021 that only a small portion of transgender service members actively seek such treatments. Estimates of the number of transgender individuals serving in the military range widely, from 1,000 to as high as 15,000, according to studies cited by the Associated Press.
Opponents of the potential executive order argue that such a policy undermines core military values, including the merit-based service model. They also point to the contributions of transgender personnel in various roles, including combat positions, intelligence, and medical fields.
President Biden’s reversal of Trump’s initial transgender military ban was framed as a move to restore fairness and inclusivity in the armed forces. Critics of Trump’s potential policy fear that reinstating and expanding the ban would harm military morale and hinder recruitment during a period of significant global security challenges.
Beyond the military, the debate reflects broader cultural battles surrounding gender identity and inclusion in public life. President Biden and many in his administration have framed transgender rights as a civil rights issue, while Trump and his allies argue that military readiness and cost-efficiency should take precedence over social considerations.
Trump’s reported plan to reinstate and expand the transgender military ban comes amidst broader critiques of what conservatives label as the military’s “woke agenda.” This critique includes opposition to diversity training, LGBTQ+ inclusivity programs, and other measures perceived as politically motivated distractions from the military’s core mission.
For Trump, this policy aligns with his broader strategy of energizing his base through cultural and political flashpoints. It also signals a return to his earlier promises of restoring what he described as a “strong and focused” military during his first term.
Supporters argue that such a policy will streamline military operations and align with traditional notions of military readiness. Critics, however, counter that it risks further politicizing the armed forces and diminishing America’s ability to recruit and retain talented individuals.
If implemented, Trump’s proposed executive order could trigger significant legal and political battles. Advocacy groups for LGBTQ+ rights have already indicated their readiness to challenge such policies in court, citing constitutional protections and anti-discrimination statutes.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration’s approach to transgender military service has solidified its position on inclusivity. Biden’s executive order reversing Trump’s initial ban emphasized that “all Americans who are qualified to serve in the Armed Forces should be able to do so.”
As the debate continues, the future of transgender individuals in the military hangs in the balance. For now, Trump’s reported plan has reignited a contentious discussion about the intersection of identity, policy, and national defense. Whether this approach helps or hinders the military remains a deeply divisive question, one that will likely shape the political and cultural landscape in the years to come.

Absolutely the right thing to do. Clean out the mentally inept and strengthen our military will real men. We need to pay attention to Romans 1:18-32.
Totally agree. This article is a tortured attempt to defend one of the aspects that is eroding the military and contrary to the author actually hurting recruiting.
Idiots. You don’t know science or English. They are not trans gender; you cannot trans a gender, one cannot change one’s gender, unless one can change one’s genes. They are gender dysphoric, a mental condition where one is not happy, not euphoric, with one’s gender. And gender is not ‘assigned at birth’, (morons!) it is irrevocably set at conception.
Howie, I suspect you are referring to biological sex identity, and not gender identity. They are not the same thing. Biological sex identity is both innate, and specific. Every cell of a member of a heterosexual species is either male or female. The nature of recombinant DNA is irrevocable.
Gender identity is both contrived by society, and arbitrary in detail. Skirts are not nessesarily female. Many cultures are not populated by males that traditionally wear trousers. With the exception of childbearing, no professional or daily activities and interests are nessesarily female.
Of course you could disagree, but the factual contradictions you would contend with would be forminable.
The time for the Liberal Woke sexually degenerate debauchery in the US Military is over.
The mentally ill that are under the liberal delusional that Transgenderism is normal, and acceptable in a moral society, are grossly brainwashed. Look in your underware, that is your gender. You are welcome! Seek mental
psychology.
This ban would hamper recruitment? That’s silly leftist disinformation. First, troops who want to join to engage in combat if necessary are more likely to join without the willy wokeness of the Obama and Biden eras. Second, do we really want drag queens facing off against Chinese Marines as our defenders?
Absolutely agree. I spent 27 years in the military and I would have left if I had to put up with these freaks
No President will ever have the authority to use an Executive Order against people who have been living legal as they are and then decide to make it illegal and punish them It is what they call EX POST FACTO law, If a President could just make an Executive Order against anything the subjects are beyond imagination. If it is legal for you to something now they can not make a law just to punish you, If Thrump tries this I see a bitter court case in the future.
“Biden’s executive order reversing Trump’s initial ban emphasized that “all Americans who are qualified to serve in the Armed Forces should be able to do so.”
This is exactly the point. And, it is why Trump is right. “Americans who are qualified”. A guy, a male person, a guy with male parts, who thinks he is a girl, is an automatic disqualification. Because the number one qualification to serve in the United States military is to be mentally and physically fit. Girl boys are not mentally fit.
Looking at the “people” in the picture at the top of the article, the first thing I thought was what disgusting individuals those were. Even if they weren’t “transgender”, they were way too fat for military personnel. If this is the way our military personnel are looking, we are in deep doodoo. Too many doughnuts and not enough exercise. Our adversaries look at this and laugh.
