President Donald Trump campaigned in Arizona on Wednesday for Republican candidates, bringing undefeated boxing champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather on stage in a moment that quickly spread across social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram and X.
Trump introduced Mayweather, who finished his career 50-0, calling him “the greatest defensive fighter.” Mayweather returned the praise, telling the crowd the country could not “have chosen a better president twice than Donald Trump.”
“If I died and came back a million times, I will always choose America. It was great to represent this country in the 1996 Olympic Games, to go out there and represent the red, white, and blue,” Mayweather said.
“We couldn’t have chose a better president twice than Donald Trump. So it’s all about keeping this country strong, and it’s all about us sticking together and believing in one another. America is the best country in the world,” he added.
Mayweather is the latest athlete to join Trump at a campaign stop during his midterm get-out-the-vote tour. Former pitcher Roger Clemens appeared with the president in San Antonio last week, boxer Mike Tyson joined him two days later in Syracuse, and football coach John Gruden and boxer-turned-YouTuber Jake Paul stood with Trump on Monday in Youngstown, Ohio.
Trump Targets Hobbs on Crime, Border
The Arizona stop was built around Trump’s push for Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who is running for governor against incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ). Trump told the crowd Arizonans would reject Hobbs in 20 days, calling her “horrible” and accusing her of being soft on both crime and the border.
“So 20 days from now, the people of Arizona are going to defeat your failed radical left, horrible governor Katie Hobbs. She’s horrible. First of all, she’s a dumb person,” Trump said.
He described Biggs, by contrast, as a “true American patriot” and “really a common sense person.”
Trump accused Hobbs, governor since 2023, of favoring cartel interests over public safety, claiming “she does the bidding of the cartels” and that “something has to be between her and the cartels because she’s causing tremendous death in your state.”
He pointed specifically to 18 crime-related bills he said Hobbs vetoed, including measures aimed at cartel operations and increased sentences for fentanyl dealers.
“She vetoed 18 bills cracking down on crime, including legislation to crush the drug cartels. She vetoed legislation that would have been bad and probably broken the cartels, and increased prison sentences for fentanyl dealers. She didn’t do it. She wouldn’t sign it,” Trump said.
He added that fentanyl deaths have hit Arizona families of all ages, while crediting military action against cartels with reducing the flow of the drug into the country.
Broader Warning on Democrats
Trump extended his criticism beyond Hobbs to former President Joe Biden and Democrats generally, blaming them for the nation’s affordability crisis and warning of what would follow a Democratic return to power.
“If the Democrats get back into power, they will immediately reopen your borders, sell out Arizona to the cartels, raise your prices, and open the prisons and jails of the planet so that they can come in totally unchecked, totally unvetted into Arizona and every other place like it was,” he said.
He closed by urging Arizona voters to make a statement on Election Day, November 3rd.
“This state needs to stand up and declare that you are never going back to the disasters and devastation of the Democrat rule,” Trump said.
