Since Donald Trump’s meteoric rise to political dominance, liberal media figures and Democratic strategists have struggled to reconcile how he won against the odds. For CNN commentator Van Jones, the answer lies in a fundamental misunderstanding of the modern media landscape—and Trump’s unique ability to exploit it.
In a revealing discussion with former CNN commentator Chris Cillizza, Jones dropped unfiltered critiques of his fellow liberals and the media’s failure to adapt to Trump’s revolutionary approach. The conversation underscored the political left’s inability to keep pace with Trump’s mastery of unconventional media platforms and grassroots engagement.
Cillizza kicked off the conversation by marveling at Trump’s intuitive grasp of a shifting media ecosystem.
“How the hell did Donald Trump figure out that the mainstream media is the fringe and the fringe is now the mainstream?” Cillizza asked. “The 78-year-old guy who doesn’t even have a computer and still, like, writes handwritten notes—how did he become the guy who cracked the code?”
Jones didn’t mince words in his response, praising Trump’s strategic brilliance.
“Donald Trump is not an idiot. Let me be very clear. Donald Trump is smarter than me, you, and all of his critics,” Jones said. “You know how I know? Because he has the White House, the Senate, the House, and the popular vote.”
Jones credited Trump’s political acumen, willingness to embrace new media, and ability to connect with audiences across the spectrum. He specifically highlighted Trump’s appearances on non-traditional platforms like podcasts, noting how such moves positioned him as a candidate attuned to the times.
Jones offered a fascinating theory: Trump’s media strategy might have been influenced by unexpected sources, including Elon Musk and Barron Trump. He suggested that these influences helped Trump pivot away from legacy media and toward modern platforms that better engage today’s audiences.
According to Jones, this forward-thinking approach starkly contrasts with the Democrats’ reliance on outdated campaign tactics.
“Democrats are still knocking on doors,” Jones said. “Meanwhile, Trump is dominating platforms that actually reach people where they are.”
Jones specifically criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her failure to adapt to this new reality. He pointed out that she avoided connecting with influential voices like Joe Rogan, a decision he believes cost Democrats an opportunity to expand their reach.
“Trump would talk to anyone—supporters, critics, it didn’t matter. He knew that sharing his message with as many people as possible was the key,” Jones said.
Jones didn’t hold back when addressing the liberal media’s repeated mistakes in underestimating Trump. He called out commentators who dismiss Trump as “stupid,” arguing that this mindset blinds them to his strategic brilliance and leaves them perpetually playing catch-up.
“This dude is a phenomenon,” Jones said. “He’s the most powerful human on Earth in our lifetime. And we’re still saying, ‘Well, how is this guy [doing it]?’ We look like idiots.”
Jones also noted that Trump’s movement is unlike anything the U.S. has seen before. He attributed its strength to a combination of bold decision-making, concrete policies, and a willingness to engage directly with voters—even in hostile environments.
Jones’ remarks have sparked debate among Democrats and media figures. His praise of Trump’s strategy challenges a dominant narrative within liberal circles, which often blames external factors like misinformation or voter suppression for electoral losses.
By contrast, Jones argued that the left must take a hard look at its own failures to innovate and connect with modern audiences. He emphasized that Democrats cannot afford to dismiss Trump or his tactics if they hope to compete in future elections.
“Trump’s not afraid to engage, and he’s not afraid to adapt,” Jones said. “That’s why he keeps winning, while we’re stuck scratching our heads.”
Jones’ comments highlight a broader shift in the role of media in U.S. politics. Traditional outlets have lost their grip on public discourse, with podcasts, social media platforms, and alternative news sources taking center stage.
Trump’s willingness to embrace these platforms has allowed him to sidestep the gatekeeping of legacy media and speak directly to voters. For Jones, this shift represents a critical lesson for Democrats.
“We have to stop living in the past,” Jones said. “If we don’t figure this out, Trump will continue to outpace us—and we’ll have no one to blame but ourselves.”
Van Jones’ candid critique serves as a wake-up call for liberals and media professionals alike. His analysis underscores the importance of understanding and adapting to the evolving media landscape, particularly as Trump continues to wield his influence.
Whether Jones’ words spark meaningful change remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: ignoring Trump’s strategic brilliance is no longer an option for those hoping to challenge him.

They just don’t get it. Sure, the media strategy was good but that wasn’t the decisive factor. The destructive and evil ideas championed by the left are the problem. People don’t want open borders, inflation, international weakness, weakness, anti-antisemitism, partisan weaponization of the levers of government, crime aggravated by Soros DAs, social justice, racism repackaged as anti-racism, giant powerful government, lies about climate and the benefits of wind/solar energy, lousy schools that propagandize instead of teach, transgender anti-biology nonsense, attacks on Christians, and anti-constitutional efforts to suppress free speech, and the ability to defend ones self with a firearm. Personally, I hope they continue making lame excuses and learn nothing, because it will take a while to undo all the damage that leftists policies have done.

The Progressives still have no clue.
If you depend on government to act as suffogate for your own individual: moral, ethical, and spiritual convictions, you have failed before you have even started.
Back to the churches for compassionate humanism in action?
In 2 easy sentences, this is what I despise about the anti American lying left:
