Former President Donald Trump has selected four potential running mates for consideration ahead of a significant donor event that he and Melania Trump will co-host in Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend.
“The spectacle comes as Trump is narrowing his gaze on a handful of potential running mates: Ohio Senator JD Vance, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, according to people familiar with the deliberations as recently as this week,” Bloomberg News reported.
“His running mate could be a crucial surrogate on the campaign trail, helping broaden his appeal with independents, women and minority voters, while also helping tap wealthy donors as he trails President Joe Biden by nearly $100 million,” the outlet added.
Scott, Rubio, and Vance possess significant expertise in fundraising for Senate campaigns. Burgum, who successfully sold his software company to Microsoft Corp. for $1.1 billion in 2001, has extensive connections in the tech and energy sectors that could assist him in attracting wealthy donors.
However, the ultimate decision on who will be selected remains uncertain.
“Anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump,” Trump senior advisor Brian Hughes told Bloomberg.
For his part, Trump said this week that he would be making his decision closer to the Republican National Convention, which is scheduled to begin July 15 in Milwaukee, Wis.
“We’ll be making that decision, I think, closer to Wisconsin time,” Trump said in an interview Wednesday with a Michigan television station. “It’s very early right now.”
Trump has the opportunity to evaluate his leading candidates, including Burgum, Scott, Vance, and Rubio, all of whom are anticipated to participate in the weekend donor retreat.
According to Bloomberg, their representatives either did not respond to requests for comment or declined to provide a statement.
The invitation for the event also includes other potential vice presidential candidates like South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida.
Bloomberg noted further:
Donors planning to attend include Scott Bessent of Key Square Group, who has been floated as a potential Treasury secretary nominee, and private equity investor Tommy Hicks Jr., Red Apple Group founder John Catsimatidis, former Intrepid Museum chief executive officer Bill White and his husband Bryan Eure of Willis Towers Watson will also have ringside seats, giving Trump to see how potential running mates are received by the GOP’s money elite.
The Four Seasons will be locked down for the duration of the event to keep journalists and other unauthorized visitors out of the beach-front complex, according to a person familiar with the planning.
During a rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, Trump emphasized economic matters and pledged to promptly reverse President Joe Biden’s inflationary economy.
This marked his inaugural campaign event held outside of New York on a weekday since his criminal trial commenced on April 15 related to the purported falsification of business records to conceal a payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
“When I’m in the White House, the Biden economic bust will quickly be replaced by the Trump economic boom,” Trump said to a lively crowd at the Waukesha County Expo Center. “When I left office, we handed Crooked Joe the fastest economic recovery ever recorded.
“The stock market was at a record high. The price of gasoline was $2 and even less than that a gallon. Think of that. We had periods of time where it was $1.57, $1.87; how does that sound to you? The 30-year mortgage rate was at a record low, the lowest ever recorded. Think of this, 2.65%, that’s what your mortgage rates were. Now you can’t get a mortgage. If you want to pay 8 or 9%, you still can’t get ‘em. And we had no inflation,” he added, according to Newsmax.

Byron Donalds for VP
I think that he is overlooking a significant running mate in Tulsi Gabbart. If you take the time to listen to her I think you would be impressed. Being an x democrat, I an sure, makes people suspicious of her. However if you listen to her thoughts you would see that she sees the same problems as many Republicans and would be attractive to independent voters. A much more interesting person than most of the top four listed here.
J.D. Vance would be the only viable candidate on the list. All the others are traitorous RINOs. What about Ben Carson? If President Trump picks a RINO as his running mate then I am out.
Big NO!! to Scott and Rubio. Both are not trustworthy, especially Rubio. I remember him from the Tea Party era….a snake in the grass, for sure!
Bergum is an unknown, politically and Vance is too likely to be a hidden supporter of the Swamp. I like Rubio and Scott, BUT, I would be reluctant to give up a republican seat in the Senate. I like Kristi Noem. Okay, she shot an aggressive dog and an aggressive goat. Big deal. That’s how things are handled in rural America. They don’t drag an aggressive animal to the vet to pay someone else to do the dirty work!!
Lets put it this way the dog and goat were shot in the head and felt absolutely no pain.
I was hoping that Trump would find someone who was a near-clone to himself. Someone who had thick skin, driven, confident, Christian, moral, focused, Constitutionally savvy, supportive of small business, lover of life at all stages. Not many out there. Has to be very tough and able to take the blows and remain in their feet. This person will be responsible for carrying on Trump’s legacy with minimal changes. I’m not usually for backing women, but I did like Sarah Palin (met her also in person when she was running for VP, although I don’t like how her family suffered under her ambition, either to be honest). But the lady who seems to be the ‘female Trump’ is MTG. She seems to be spot-on on all the issues that I support. I know she is possibly a pariah, but Trump is treated like one, so what’s the diff?
Rubio is not qualified as a natural born citizen. Politicians continue to sweep this under the rug and it has resulted in corrupting the Constitution and opening the door to the Presidency to foreign influence. Natural born means two parents, but especially the father must be American citizens at the time of the candidates birth. Obama failed that test. We cannot continue to ignore that law.
Shoot a dog, lose your spot.
