Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, has once again thrust herself into the political spotlight, this time threatening to “spill the tea” about what her father allegedly said about Vice President Kamala Harris. After years of distancing herself from both Republicans and Democrats, McCain now appears caught between political factions, seeking relevance by stoking a fresh controversy.
Her latest comments come in response to remarks made by Kamala Harris during a campaign stop in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she shared a story about a conversation she allegedly had with John McCain. According to Harris, John McCain told her, “Kid, you’re gonna make a great Senator,” during one of their meetings. Harris recounted this anecdote to an audience in a moment meant to showcase bipartisanship, but it sparked an unexpected reaction from Meghan McCain, who took offense.
Meghan McCain, never one to shy away from speaking out, quickly fired back on social media, accusing Harris and the Democrats of attempting to “reinvent history” and tarnishing the memory of her father. In a series of posts, McCain expressed frustration over what she described as a “need to bastardize his memory” for political gain.
McCain also hinted that she had more to say about her father’s actual views on Kamala Harris, and that she might start “spilling tea” about those private conversations. Her cryptic comment seemed designed to generate buzz and curiosity, leaving many wondering what revelations she might unveil. However, Meghan McCain’s relationship with both political parties has become strained over the years, and some critics view this as an attempt to stay relevant in a political landscape where she increasingly finds herself without a clear base of support.
Meghan McCain has had a complicated relationship with both major political parties. Though she initially built her public persona as a staunch defender of her father’s legacy within the Republican Party, her outspoken opposition to Donald Trump and his supporters has alienated her from the GOP. McCain’s feud with Trump famously escalated after Trump made derogatory comments about her father, whom he criticized for his military service and political stances. Meghan McCain, in turn, has been a vocal critic of Trump and many of his high-profile supporters, including Kari Lake, a prominent Arizona Republican.
At the same time, McCain has never fully embraced the Democratic Party either. During her time as a co-host on The View, she frequently clashed with her more liberal co-stars and openly criticized the policies and personalities of Democratic leaders. Her recent criticism of Harris and the Democrats over their use of her father’s legacy is another example of McCain’s refusal to align herself fully with either party.
Harris’ comments about John McCain during her speech in Scottsdale were meant to highlight the late senator’s bipartisan spirit and ability to work across party lines. Harris shared the story as a light-hearted moment, complete with her characteristic laughter, which has often been a point of mockery from critics. Her remarks, though seemingly harmless, provoked a fierce reaction from Meghan McCain.
The vice president also added an awkward twist to her speech by adopting a Jamaican accent when referencing her background. This wasn’t the first time Harris had used a fake accent in her public remarks, a habit that has been widely ridiculed. Meghan McCain, however, focused her criticism more on Harris’s use of John McCain’s legacy for political gain than on the vice president’s speaking style.
While Meghan McCain continues to be a public figure, her political influence has waned in recent years. After leaving The View in 2021, she has been searching for a platform that resonates with a broader audience. Her strong opinions on both Republicans and Democrats have left her without a solid base of supporters, as she continues to alienate herself from both camps. By threatening to reveal her father’s private thoughts about Kamala Harris, she seems to be attempting to carve out a new role as an independent voice willing to challenge both sides.
Critics, however, see her latest move as an attempt to stay relevant in a fast-moving political climate where public figures can quickly fall out of the spotlight. By targeting Harris and the Democrats’ use of her father’s memory, McCain is drawing attention to herself and reigniting conversations about John McCain’s legacy.
“Please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris,” said McCain on X:
Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for…
But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris….

And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea.

Of course, she’s still a Trump hater and probably will not do anything to help him win the presidency. If she had any intention of actually defending her father’s legacy, she would debunk Kamala’s lies and tell everyone what he thought of her.
This all appears to be an empty threat.
On Thursday, McCain, claiming to be a “principled conservative,” made it clear that she would not support Trump in response to a post from Tim Walz, in which he championed the support of Meghan’s brother, Jim McCain.
For all of you tweeting at me – yes, I am over here the last republican in the family. Albeit, it feels strange, everything is okay. There is no family drama.
I won't endorse Harris (or Trump) because I am still a principled conservative, like my Dad was his entire life. https://t.co/0hvcq1BEE0

Meghan McCain’s threat to “spill tea” about her father’s true feelings on Kamala Harris has added fuel to the already contentious political landscape. Whether she will follow through on her threat remains to be seen, but her comments have certainly garnered attention, especially as the 2024 presidential campaign heats up. For now, McCain remains in a political limbo, estranged from both major parties and struggling to find her place in a rapidly evolving political world.

John McCain was an idiot. He hot started his jet on the deck of the CVN Forrestal, started a fire which killed 113, did substantial damage to the ship, and his Admiral father covered for him. To prove he was an idiot, while dying of brain cancer, he was carried into the senate chambers to cast the deciding vote for Ovomitcare/ACA. Total failure.
Kamala doesn’t need to bastardize John McCain’s memory. He did that all by himself. He was a traitor to his fellow prisoners in the Hanoi Hilton. He was an arrogant SOB for causing the fire and many deaths on the USS Forestal. He lied his way into the Senate and he was a lying, cheating, corrupt Senator from the getgo with a filthy mouth and was always one of the best Senators that money could buy.
All you need to know about John is look up the “SONGBIRD OF HANOI”
