Jon Rahm says he has “no updates” on the future of LIV Golf, the circuit he joined ahead of the 2024 season and has dominated ever since, winning its individual title every year. The season’s finale was played in Indianapolis this past August, and months later, Rahm and his fellow LIV players still don’t know what comes next.
Speaking ahead of this week’s Irish Open, where Rahm is set to compete on the DP World Tour, he declined to offer any clarity on his situation. When BBC Sport pressed him repeatedly on whether he’d want a pathway back to the PGA Tour, he wouldn’t give a straight answer.
“There’s just a lot of things in place. There’s a lot of things that could happen,” Rahm said. “It’s one of those things with time, time’s going to tell.”
Asked directly whether he wanted a route back to the PGA Tour, Rahm again avoided a firm stance.
“I still have a contract with LIV 1.0 that I am more than willing to fulfill,” Rahm said. “Like I said, time will tell.”
Pressed once more on whether he’d like to return to the PGA Tour, Rahm simply said, “We’ll see what happens.”
The uncertainty stems from LIV Golf’s loss of funding from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund at the close of the 2026 season. LIV CEO Scott O’Neil has said a new investor has been lined up to build what he’s calling “LIV 2.0,” but reports of a possible bankruptcy filing and lingering questions about financing have left the league’s future murky at best.
That uncertainty carries real financial weight for Rahm, who is reportedly owed more than nine figures under his existing LIV contract. Whether he collects the full amount may depend on how — or whether — the league restructures.
For now, players like Rahm are left in a holding pattern, unable to commit to any side while both LIV’s next iteration and any potential return path to the PGA Tour remain undefined. A high-profile player of Rahm’s stature would seem likely to have some route back if one is ever created, but nothing concrete has emerged. Until it does, waiting appears to be the only option.
