“Below Deck Mediterranean” star Nathan Gallagher has stopped drinking and is attending meetings in the wake of his domestic violence conviction, according to his former castmate and captain, Sandy Yawn.
Speaking exclusively to Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” on Tuesday night before boarding a City Cruises event in New York City, Yawn said Gallagher has been seeking help.
“Nathan struggles,” she said. “We talk, and I encourage him to stop drinking and get help, and that’s what he’s doing right now. He’s stopped drinking, he’s going to meetings and he’s trying to change his life.”
Gallagher, 28, was arrested on domestic violence charges in Sydney, Australia, last December. Officers took the former bosun into custody for allegedly assaulting a 29-year-old woman later identified as his ex-girlfriend, Gael Cameron, at an apartment complex, according to a police report obtained by Rolling Stone.
On Sept. 1, Gallagher was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm, choking and common assault, according to documents obtained by Page Six. He did not attend the hearing, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Documents submitted at the hearing state that in December 2025, Gallagher allegedly “suffocated and choked” Cameron at their family home, using one hand to cover her mouth and nose while she “tried to pull away.” The documents say he “persisted and continued to cover her mouth, causing the victim to be unable to breathe at certain times.” Gallagher and Cameron share a 1-year-old son, Kayden.
After Cameron allegedly elbowed Gallagher in the mouth, the documents state he placed both hands around her neck and then struck her on the left side of her jaw with an open palm, causing pain and swelling. Gallagher reportedly denied choking her, but Judge Janine Lacy found the offenses “proven” and issued the warrant.
Gallagher addressed the arrest publicly for the first time a week before the hearing, telling Rolling Stone in August: “I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions. But I will not accept being portrayed solely through one person’s account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it.”
He said he had “contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records,” which he believed would “provide important context,” and referenced unspecified “other matters surrounding the relationship” he had not discussed publicly, including the breakdown of the relationship, prior allegations Cameron made about a former partner, and financial matters tied to a Sydney apartment purchase.
“I have kept the evidence and will deal with it through the appropriate channels. But I also don’t believe it is fair for one version of events to be presented publicly as though it is the complete story,” he said.
Bravo has since confirmed it has cut ties with Gallagher. His arrest went unmentioned in the Season 11 finale of “Below Deck Mediterranean,” which had been filmed in summer 2025, drawing frustration from some viewers. Yawn, however, said she believed Gallagher’s on-screen ending was fitting.
“I don’t really want to comment on what happened because I wasn’t there. I just have heard third, fourth person down the row,” Yawn said. “I think, not knowing that information, he had exactly what he deserved because nothing had happened on the boat or during filming. It was after.”
Following the finale’s Oct. 5 airing, Cameron posted to Instagram thanking fans for their support. “It’s been a tough season, but I have been using the past few months to quietly heal and rebuild for little man and myself,” she wrote. “I’m really working on finding myself again and moving forward.”
