A kitten named Suki got herself into a jam inside a Camarillo home this week, and it took three firefighters to get her out.
According to the Ventura County Fire Department, Suki had only been with her new family for a few weeks when she crawled partway into an opening in an entertainment center and couldn’t back out. The family called for help, and Engine 50 out of Camarillo responded to the animal-in-distress call.
Firefighters pulled the A/V equipment out of the cabinet, carefully lowered the entertainment center to a better angle, and worked the kitten free. Video of the rescue shows the three firefighters hovering over the small cabinet, coaxing Suki out. She came away with no apparent injuries and was handed back to her family.
The footage has since taken off online. Posted to TikTok earlier this week, it has drawn more than 7 million views, the fire department said.
Commenters weighed in with their own stories and reactions. One person recounted calling firefighters at midnight after their own cat got stuck behind a water heater. Another joked, “I am now gonna go to ventura and get my head stuck in a entertainment center.” A third summed up the public mood: “I 100 approve this use of my tax dollars.”
The Ventura County Fire Department thanked photographer Erin Garcia for sharing the story and said the rescue reflected its commitment to serving the community.
