With Thanksgiving a few weeks away, Costco has rolled out a round of discounts on holiday staples, from baking ingredients to ready-made appetizers, as shoppers begin stocking their pantries for the season.
Andrew Edelblum, Ph.D., an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Dayton in Ohio, said Costco doesn’t always need steep markdowns to generate buzz among its shoppers.
“They don’t even necessarily need to have really phenomenal deals on their product to drum up excitement about whatever is new coming through the doors on a week-to-week basis,” Edelblum told Fox News Digital.
Edelblum pointed to Costco’s pumpkin pie as a prime example of a holiday staple that draws attention largely because of the retailer’s scale, which allows for bulk purchasing and in-house bakery production.
Seven deals shoppers are tracking
According to recent reports, some of the discounts below run through Nov. 15, though prices and availability can vary by location.
- Pumpkin pie: Costco’s 12-inch pie weighs nearly 4 pounds and typically costs $5.99. Shoppers say it freezes well, making it a candidate for early purchase.
- Baking staple two-pack: Costco is cutting $15 off a two-pack of 8-ounce bottles of a product favored by professional bakers, according to EatingWell. The deal is available online only.
- Cheese three-pack: A three-pack with two Garlic & Fine Herbs cheeses and one Shallot & Chive cheese is $2.70 off. Southern Living suggests serving it with crackers or mixing it into mashed potatoes.
- Crackers: An 18-stack box of buttery crackers is $3.30 off, per Southern Living. They work as a snack-spread addition or can be crushed for casserole toppings.
- Brie-filled croissant rolls: A $10.99 pack of buttery croissant rolls filled with creamy Brie sauce and Emmental cheese heats up in about eight minutes, according to Eat This, Not That.
- Broth six-pack: A six-pack of 32-ounce broth cartons offers a reduced-sodium option for soups, stews, casseroles and pasta bakes through the winter months.
- Potstickers: A bag of potstickers, on sale for just under $10, cooks in about 10 minutes and contains 12 grams of protein per serving.
As with any retailer promotion, shoppers should check their local store for current pricing, since availability and discounts can differ by region.
