Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Sunday that a major announcement on fraud is coming Monday, tagging the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Justice and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in a post on X.
“TOMORROW: UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD CRACKDOWN,” Duffy wrote, without offering further detail on timing, location, or the specific fraud to be addressed. He did not say whether any arrests have been made.
The tease follows months of joint work between the Department of Transportation and DHS scrutinizing the commercial trucking industry, including improperly issued commercial driver’s licenses, fraudulent truck driving schools, and unvetted foreign drivers on American roads.
In July, the two agencies announced a joint investigation into roughly 75 commercial driving schools suspected of fraud, including allegations that schools falsified training records and improperly certified drivers who had not met licensing requirements. DHS and DOT have also run roadside enforcement operations aimed at unqualified foreign commercial drivers.
The scrutiny follows several fatal truck accidents involving drivers who were in the country illegally, which have heightened concerns about how commercial driver’s licenses are issued and verified.
Part of a Broader Push
Monday’s announcement would be the latest in a series of administration actions targeting fraud across federal programs. President Trump established the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in March to coordinate scrutiny of federal benefit programs, and the Department of Justice has since created a National Fraud Enforcement Division dedicated to investigating and prosecuting theft or fraudulent misuse of taxpayer dollars.
The administration has separately expanded fraud-related efforts touching health care, government benefits, trade, and immigration programs, and the White House recently launched an interactive map tracking billions of dollars in suspected fraud.
