The House of Representatives easily approved a bill on Saturday that paves the way for a forthcoming ban on Chinese-operated TikTok in the United States, despite opposition from 25 GOP members.
The ban was linked to a vote on a $95 billion foreign aid package, predominantly designated for Ukraine with over $60 billion allocated.
Following the passage of the bill, Democrats cheered loudly and displayed Ukrainian flags, as reported by The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson and Cassandra MacDonald.
While the legislation does offer TikTok an opportunity to avoid the ban by divesting from China and finding a new non-Chinese owner within a year, there is little indication that such a sale will take place as the Chinese government remains resistant.
Consequently, the approximately 170 million TikTok users in the U.S. are likely to lose access to the platform in the near future unless unforeseen developments occur.
According to Newsweek, here is a list of the 25 GOP members who opposed the ban. It is worth noting that these members are predominantly conservative Republicans rather than RINOS.
