Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed a group of illegal immigrants from the country last week whose criminal records include second-degree murder, vehicular homicide, indecent behavior with juveniles, and armed robbery, according to Department of Homeland Security officials.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed the removals, saying, “Last week, the hard-working men and women of ICE deported even more illegal aliens from our country, including murderers, pedophiles, drunk drivers, and robbers.”
Among those removed was Jose Noel Avelar-Velasquez of El Salvador, who had been convicted of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery with a dangerous weapon in New York, a state with sanctuary policies limiting local cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Avelar-Velasquez entered the country as an unidentified got-away and was ordered deported by a federal immigration judge in December 2002.
Jacinto Gonzalez-Perez of Mexico was deported this month following a conviction for careless driving resulting in death in Colorado. He crossed into California as an unaccompanied minor in December 2015, was released into the interior of the country, and was ordered removed by a judge in May of this year.
Edan Yoel Gomez-Rodriguez, from Honduras, was deported on September 11 with a conviction for indecent behavior with juveniles in Louisiana on his record. His immigration history shows repeated cycles of removal and illegal reentry: after entering the country at an unknown date, he was ordered deported on April 16, 2008, and removed five days later. He illegally reentered — a federal felony — and was deported again on January 17, 2014, then reentered a third time before this latest removal.
Armando Vladimir Salgado of El Salvador, deported September 10, has convictions for driving while intoxicated and attempted robbery, along with arrests for assault, robbery, and fraudulent use of a birth certificate in Virginia. He first crossed into Texas illegally in March 2006, was ordered removed that September, and was deported in May 2009. He reentered illegally and was deported again in August 2016, reentered a third time and was deported again in January 2024, then reentered a fourth time before his latest removal.
Mary Angelica Landeros-Quen of Mexico, deported September 7, has a robbery-with-a-firearm conviction in Florida. She had been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status under the Obama administration in March 2015 before a judge ordered her removed on September 2, 2026.
“Every single deportation makes America safer,” Mullin said. “DHS is delivering on President Trump’s mandate from the American people to deport illegal aliens, because that’s how we save lives.”
