Arizona Republican Kari Lake, the likely GOP candidate for a US Senate seat, has voiced her opposition to the recent pro-life decision in Arizona.
The Arizona Supreme Court upheld a state law, dating back to 1864 prior to statehood, which bans abortion except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. It also criminalizes performing or aiding in an abortion procedure.
In a statement, Lake condemned the ruling and claimed the “pre-statehood law is out of step with Arizonans.”
“I am the only woman and mother in this race. I understand the fear, anxiety and joy of pregnancy and motherhood. I wholeheartedly agree with President Trump — this is a very personal issue that should be determined by each individual state and her people,” Lake said.
“I oppose today’s ruling, and am calling on [Gov.] Katie Hobbs and the State Legislature to come up with an immediate common sense solution that Arizonans can support,” she added.
Lake not only expressed her disagreement with the ruling but also pledged not to endorse a federal ban on abortion if she wins a Senate seat.
“I am not going to D.C. to legislate an issue that has been returned to the states,” Lake explained.
Pro-life advocates may contend that the problem with Lake’s stance is that, following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, individual states have varying degrees of restrictions on abortion.
Some states, such as Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont, along with Washington D.C., have no gestational limits for abortion.
This lack of uniformity allows for the possibility of abortion up until the moment of birth in some areas.
Due to this concern, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America strongly criticized both Lake’s and Donald Trump’s positions on abortion for aligning with states that permit unrestricted abortions.
“Unborn children and their mothers deserve national protections and national advocacy from the brutality of the abortion industry. The Dobbs decision clearly allows both states and Congress to act,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. “Saying the issue is ‘back to the states’ cedes the national debate to the Democrats who are working relentlessly to enact legislation mandating abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. If successful, they will wipe out states’ rights.”
Lake’s sudden change of heart on the Arizona law is significant. Just two years ago, she had lauded it as “a great law.” Lake’s stance on this matter carries weight, especially if she secures a seat in the U.S. Senate, potentially aiding Republicans in regaining control of the upper chamber.
Her opposition to a federal ban on abortion could jeopardize efforts to enact one should Republicans seize power in both the House and Senate.

I will not financially support anyone who doesn’t take a strong stance against abortion.
Very inaccurate and devisive. Objecting to a draconian law does not align you with states enacting the opposite draconian law.
Then the Pro-Lifers, of which I am one, in those individual states that allow indiscriminate murdering of children must band together for more restrictive legislation. This is and should always be a state issue not encumbered by Federal meddling. Killing the unborn is simply wrong except in the cases of rape, incest or where the mother’s life is threatened. States that allow this barbaric practice should be shamed into passing laws protecting the innocent.
I agree with you 100%! Why should an innocent pay for the immorality, repugnant actions of those that facilitated its being? Killing an unborn is murder and those that perform the surgeries and those that ask for it to be done should be treated as such, murderers!
Do the same thing to these 15 year olds that they did to the victim. That is only fair.
We all know how babies are created
Cap it – take the pill- or joe about abstinence???? Killing a life is NOT birth control!’!!!!
Republicans can’t do anything to save babies if they can’t get elected. This hard line keeps them out of power. Even God gives people free will, you can’t force morality.
Here’s a no brainer. If the 1864 law is out of step with today’s Arizonians then the legislature has the power to overturn the law and write new legislation. Duh!
That’s why you should trust NO MAN. Including Trump. States rights? How does the State have the right to murder anyone.?
So you’re saying that you’re a sexist bigot first and foremost. I see logic is not one of your strong suits.
Lake is absolutely correct that abortion decisions belong to the individual states, not the federal government. In a trivial sense compare it to your neighbor telling you what you have to eat for dinner. It’s not your neighbor’s decision. Similarly, abortion is not the federal government’s decision – that belongs to the states.
How your state decides to handle abortion is up to the state representatives you elect, as are a myriad of other decisions like driver’s licenses, insurance, sales tax, … It’s ultimately in your hands, like it always should have been.
BTW, the state certainly does have the right to murder anyone. It’s called capital punishment and far more men than women have been executed in the past.

Because of the constitution this is a state by state decision. The democrats have no respect for life, whether in the womb, or in the streets or in their home or in their hearts. Laws have never stopped crime, only punished those who commit them. As much as I want this evil ended, I don’t want the federal government given any more authority. They need to be cut off at the knees and neutered down to only what the constitution allows.
I have just lost my respect for KARI LAKE to bad I believed she was a GOD loving concretive .
“My body, my choice.”
Yeah, but it’s not YOUR body we’re concerned about.
That baby’s body is NOT your choice!!!
“My body”? It took 2 other people to start the beginning of a life a process brought about by the Creator which takes a man and a woman (no other combo, same sex will not make it happen) to bring about. No one can create themselves or command themselves into existence. After birth (usually but not always) other people assist, including any special medical procedures needed to ensure survival (including in-utero operations to early correct life-threatening situations) of the young, delicate life. Then it takes at least one parent, most times two, to do all those everyday things (feed, clothe, change diapers, bathe and protect from harm during the early years to assist in survival and education all the way to adulthood. All of these things are done by others not the young child. Then when there are injuries (broken arm, etc.) the person can’t simply snap their fingers and instantly heal themselves, it takes a medic, nurse or doctor (and likely imaging specialists) as well as meds to prevent infection and facilitate healing. With the parents as primary teachers, it takes others as well to educate the child through all the stages, including well into adulthood. Even if the person uses online material to learn – it was created by others. All of these things that assist the person for all stages of development from youth to adulthood are initiated by others. And when a person passes to what is next, they can’t (typically) will themselves back into their bodies, especially if that body is beyond the ability to support life. In very special cases where someone returns from death or the edge of it, that person is not conscious, so again it takes an external source, such as electrical paddles, artificial respiration, NARCAN for overdoses, or the unexplainable to bring that persons entity back to realm of the living. So when you take a good look at all of this and how our individual existence is initiated and sustained by others just how can anyone say ‘it’s MY body’ when people can’t create themselves, nor do all of those other things that MUST be done by others to ensure survival, education and maintenance of that person? Your body is only a mere vessel that contains you inner essence (soul, self, etc.) and you don’t get to stay in it forever, it’s only on loan (from the creator whomever one may think is responsible for the creation of all life. None of our bodies are truly ‘ours’. So for those who think their body is entirely their own: Get over it.
