Over the weekend, a Washington Post report alleging that the Secret Service rejected a request for additional protection for former President Donald Trump shocked Americans.
Initially, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi refuted the claim, but later admitted that it was indeed accurate.
“The Secret Service has a vast, dynamic, and intricate mission,” NBC News quoted Guglielmi as saying in a statement on Sunday.
“Every day we work in a dynamic threat environment to ensure our protectees are safe and secure across multiple events, travel, and other challenging environments,” Guglielmi insisted.
“We execute a comprehensive and layered strategy to balance personnel, technology, and specialized operational needs,” the spokesperson continued.
“In some instances where specific Secret Service specialized units or resources were not provided, the agency made modifications to ensure the security of the protectee,” he added.
“This may include utilizing state or local partners to provide specialized functions or otherwise identifying alternatives to reduce public exposure of a protectee,” Guglielmi went on to conclude.
According to NBC News, both Guglielmi and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas initially denied that any resources had been redirected from protecting Trump before the assassination attempt.
The Washington Post reported that agents assigned to Trump had requested additional magnetometers and personnel, including agents to screen rally attendees and serve as counter-snipers at his outdoor campaign events.
On Monday, legislators questioned Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle, who was reportedly hired with significant influence from First Lady Jill Biden’s office, as per the New York Post.

Somehow I believe the well being of a former president who is currently running for office again has more significant need of the Secret Service than the wife of a current president. To pull agents off of Trump to send them to a rally conducted by Jill Biden in an INDOOR facility is obviously political and obviously dangerous.
This was a planned hit.
Too many unanswered questions. Jill Biden needed extra security, yeah right! There are way too many Democratic fingerprints all over this. BUT, as usual they will lie, make false accusations, never tell the truth. For any investigation to be truthful, accurate, and completely impartial it must be conducted by a REAL SPECIAL PROSECUTOR with no ties to either Democrats or Republicans.
