Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams was stretchered off the court during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers after suffering a severe left leg injury that could sideline him for the remainder of the season.
Williams went up near the basket with Clippers defenders closing in to attempt a shot, landing awkwardly with his left foot and ankle folded beneath him. His immediate reaction made clear something was badly wrong, as his foot was left in an abnormal position.
Williams put his head in his hands in apparent disbelief as teammates reacted with visible shock. Athletic trainers quickly surrounded him to assess the injury before he was placed on a stretcher and wheeled off the floor. Fans in attendance chanted his name as he was taken out, and Williams gave the crowd a thumbs-up in acknowledgment.
The Thunder have not yet disclosed the specific nature of the injury. While not every severe-looking injury proves season-ending, the circumstances surrounding this one suggest a strong possibility Williams will not return to action during the 2026-27 campaign.
Williams was entering his fifth NBA season and had established himself as one of the central figures on a deep Oklahoma City roster. Last season, the former All-Star averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists across 33 games, though he was limited by a string of injuries, including a right wrist issue affecting his shooting hand and right and left hamstring strains that kept him out for much of the Thunder’s postseason run to the Western Conference Finals.
The Thunder defeated the Clippers to remain undefeated to start the season, but the win came at a cost. Guard Cason Wallace also went down with a left shoulder injury in the first quarter, meaning Oklahoma City now faces the prospect of being without two starters.
Veteran Alex Caruso, who typically comes off the bench, and Jared McCain are expected to see increased roles as the Thunder adjust to the losses.
