A recent analysis by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) suggests that violent crimes—including rape, robbery, and aggravated assault—have surged significantly during the Biden-Harris administration, contradicting official claims of a reduction in crime.
The CPRC’s findings, based on data from the Department of Justice, have ignited a renewed debate over the administration’s approach to crime and public safety.
According to the report, violent crime fell by 15% under former President Donald Trump between 2016 and 2020. However, since 2020, the analysis points to a sharp rise in violent crimes.
During a recent debate, Trump seized on the issue, saying, “Despite their fraudulent statements, crime in this country is through the roof. And we have a new form of crime. It’s called migrant crime.” His remarks have drawn attention to the broader narrative that the Biden administration’s immigration policies have contributed to rising crime rates.
Critics of Trump’s statements, including the moderators of the debate, challenged his claims, citing FBI data that suggested crime had not risen as drastically as Trump claimed.
However, organizations like the Media Research Center and others have countered that the FBI data was misleading, asserting that Trump’s concerns about rising crime, particularly violent crime, are accurate.
The CPRC’s report appears to support this view.
The CPRC’s report relies on data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), which tracks non-fatal violent crimes but does not include murder rates.
The report highlights dramatic increases in violent crime during the Biden-Harris administration. It notes that between 2016 and 2020, violent crime decreased by 15% under Trump, but between 2020 and 2023, it soared by 55% under Biden.
Specifically, the report breaks down the increase in violent crime under Biden:
- Rape increased by 42%
- Robbery rose by 63%
- Aggravated assault surged by 55%
The CPRC also considered alternative starting points for the analysis to account for the potential impact of COVID-19 on crime rates. Even using 2019 or a five-year pre-COVID average as the baseline, violent crime increased by 19%.
When 2021 is taken as the starting point, the figures are similarly concerning, with violent crime up by 55%, rape up by 42%, robbery up by 53%, and aggravated assault up by 67%.
These statistics have added fuel to the political debate over crime and the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of public safety.
The Trump campaign has consistently linked rising crime rates to the administration’s immigration policies, frequently citing instances of crimes committed by illegal immigrants as evidence of the need for stricter immigration enforcement.
On the other hand, the Biden-Harris administration has focused on community policing and gun control as key strategies to combat crime.
They have argued that their approach is aimed at addressing the root causes of crime, including poverty, mental health, and access to firearms. However, critics contend that these measures have been inadequate in curbing violent crime, particularly as immigration continues to be a contentious issue.
The debate over the administration’s crime policies is likely to intensify as more data emerges.
The CPRC’s findings provide ammunition for those who argue that the Biden-Harris administration has failed to address a growing crime problem in the country.Meanwhile, the administration’s supporters maintain that broader social policies and reforms are necessary to reduce crime in the long term.
As the 2024 election approaches, crime is expected to remain a central issue in the political discourse, with both sides pointing to different interpretations of the data to support their positions.
Whether the CPRC’s analysis will shape the broader public perception of the Biden-Harris administration’s performance on crime remains to be seen, but it has certainly brought the issue to the forefront of political debate.

Oh and Scott Adams was right!
The basic problem is that the cadre of Kamala supporters who watched the debate will NOT see the post-debate fact checks that this and the other Democrat talking-points she regurgitated are also scripted LIES…LIES that the ABC moderators never questioned. That “debate” was like a WWE 3 on 1 handicap cage match.
This is why I never watch the left leaning lying media. I consider the press and the media the biggest threat to our freedom.
