The Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) filed criminal charges on Tuesday against Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump, along with his running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), following their claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were allegedly eating local pets and wildlife.
These charges come amid rising tensions over immigration rhetoric and its effects on local communities.
According to the HBA, both Trump and Vance led efforts to “vilify and threaten” the Haitian community by spreading “baseless” allegations that Haitian immigrants were consuming pets, including cats and dogs, as well as local wildlife.
The group, which has reportedly received funding from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation according to a 2021 press release, is demanding accountability for what they describe as “malicious” and “debunked” claims.
In a press release, the HBA called for the arrest of Trump and Vance, stating that the two had “committed multiple crimes” and urging the court to issue arrest warrants.
Guerline Jozef, the executive director of the organization, claimed that these accusations had caused significant harm to the Haitian community in Springfield, particularly in the form of bomb threats and racially charged harassment.
“Within the last two weeks, there have been 33 bomb threats in Springfield targeting hospitals, schools, universities, and government offices,” Jozef said. “The lies spread by Trump and Vance have inflicted real harm and violated criminal law.”
The HBA further blamed Trump and Vance for exacerbating racial tensions in the area, claiming that their rhetoric has created fear within the Haitian community.
“This is not about one candidate or political party,” Jozef said. “It’s about confronting white supremacy, anti-Black rhetoric, and hate speech in U.S. politics that continues to cause suffering.”
Subodh Chandra, the lead attorney representing the HBA, argued that the inflammatory comments had disrupted public services in Springfield and put the Haitian community in danger.
He demanded that both Trump and Vance be held accountable, asserting that “anyone else who wreaked havoc in this way would have been arrested by now.”
Senator Vance previously told reporters that many local residents had contacted him, claiming that Haitian immigrants were hunting local wildlife and pets.
During city meetings, concerns were raised about the recent arrival of approximately 20,000 immigrants, with frustrations largely focusing on the increased traffic accidents involving unlicensed Haitian drivers.
Responding to the controversy, Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, defended Trump’s comments, asserting that he was “rightfully highlighting the failed immigration system that Kamala Harris has overseen.”
She emphasized that the influx of illegal immigrants into communities like Springfield was part of a broader national issue, one that Trump aims to resolve by securing the U.S. border and addressing the chaos caused by illegal immigration.
The charges filed by HBA invoke Ohio law, R.C. 2935.09, which allows private citizens to file criminal complaints through affidavits. However, a hearing is required before the charges can proceed further in court.

There seems to be no limits to the lying that comes out of the mouths of the left. Only yesterday I viewed an interview with a local Sheriff who verified that yes in fact these illegal immigrants are capturing, domestic animals and eating them. I also saw a report in which one of these illegal immigrants shot and killed an American Bald Eagle. They committed this crime and admitted they were going to smoke it and eat it. This happened in February and now they have been convicted and released for time served. Nothing was done to them even though the law carries a 2 year federal prison term and up to $250,000 fine. Our government has failed the American citizens and our country. All these illegals get a pass for committing crimes.
