Most Americans condemned Charlie Kirk’s murder, but some suggested the conservative influencer partly caused it.
The latest example of that phenomenon came on Thursday with shocking remarks from “Squad” member Ilhan Omar.Â
Omar accused Kirk of downplaying slavery
According to Fox News, the Minnesota Democratic congresswoman made the comments during an interview with left-wing journalist Mehdi Hasan.
“But what I do know for sure is that Charlie Kirk was someone who once said, ‘Guns save lives’ after a school shooting,” Omar said.
“Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police … downplay slavery and what Black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth should never exist,” she added.
Lauren Boebert: Political disagreements aren’t grounds for “execution”
Omar’s remarks drew sharp reaction on social media. Conservative influencer Robby Starbuck wrote, “Yeah I’ve had it with tolerance for evil. Expel Ilhan Omar from Congress and deport her to Somalia.”
“She reportedly committed immigration fraud with her sham marriage to her brother so this shouldn’t be hard to do. I have no tolerance left for this evil,” he insisted.
Red State writer Bonchie declared, “Ilhan Omar going on with Mehdi Hasan so they can both mock Charlie Kirk and lie about his ‘actions’ to justify his assassination is exactly what you’d expect.”
Meanwhile, Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert spoke up as well, stating, “I understand that in Somalia, where you come from and would do well to go back to, this isn’t a thing.
“In our county, having political disagreements with someone isn’t a reason to justify their execution,” the lawmaker pointed out.
Democrats groaned when Boebert called for prayer following Kirk’s murder
Boebert also made headlines last week when she called for prayer on the House floor the same day that Kirk was assassinated.
“I believe that silent prayers get silent results,” The Hill quoted her as saying. “Is there someone who could lead us in a moment of prayer out loud for Charlie and his family and the victims in Colorado?”
The congresswoman’s words were met with groans and boos from Democrats, which in turn led to shouting from some Republican legislators.
