Vanessa Trump, 48, announced Friday that she is now free of breast cancer following a diagnosis six months ago, sharing the news in a video alongside her 19-year-old daughter, Kai Trump.
Vanessa Trump is the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. Kai, a University of Miami student, posted the video explaining that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and wanted to share how she was diagnosed and how she overcame it.
“So my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in April, so we thought we’d share her story and how she was diagnosed and how she actually overcame it,” Kai said in the video.
In the clip, Vanessa Trump said her results “came back clear, so I’m finally cancer-free” before embracing her daughter.
According to a New York Post report cited by the family, a longer-form video featuring Kai, her mother and Dr. Nicole Saphier discussing “mom’s journey with breast cancer” and prevention and early detection was slated for release on YouTube Saturday.
The shorter video was posted in connection with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed in October.
A Difficult Diagnosis
Kai had previously discussed the toll of her mother’s diagnosis in an August interview with Fox News, describing how hard the news was to process as she prepared to leave for college.
“There was definitely, there was a lot of crying in, like, the week leading up. We would just be driving, and then we’d just start crying together,” Kai said at the time.
Kai also said her mother’s treatment was helping even as it took a physical toll.
“My mom, she’s doing a lot better. Kind of after treatment, she wasn’t feeling very good. Just like how treatment will make you feel… but she’s getting a lot better now,” Kai said.
Public Response
Kai’s video drew responses from social media users sharing their own experiences with cancer. One person wrote: “My mom had breast cancer twice, Ovarian cancer, skin cancer, a few cancerous tumors, and in the end, she had bone marrow cancer. Now she’s in heaven with Jesus. I am so glad your mom is doing well. Keep fighting cancer sucks!!!”
Another wrote: “Thank you, Kai, for using your platform to share such a meaningful and necessary message! It is truly inspiring to hear about your mom’s journey and to see you both spreading awareness together. Early detection truly saves lives! Sending lots of love and support to you and your mom.”
The Mayo Clinic notes that survival rates for breast cancer patients have been increasing, while the number of deaths from the disease has been trending downward.
