Casper police are asking the public for help locating Kandice Gunter, 30, a mother of two who has not been seen since the morning of Oct. 29 in Natrona County, Wyoming.
Gunter’s sister, Kayla Gunter, told Cowboy State Daily she reported Kandice missing after she failed to pick up her children, ages 9 and 6, from the Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Police said the report was filed that evening.
“That’s why I started freaking out,” Kayla said. “It’s totally out of character for her not to show up to get her kids.”
The sisters last spoke by phone at 10:41 a.m. that Wednesday. Kayla said nothing in the call suggested trouble, and Kandice stopped answering calls afterward. The family was told her phone pinged near Gillette around noon that day.
Police say Gunter was last known to be traveling in a gray 2016 GMC Canyon pickup bearing a Wyoming temporary registration. Her cellphone was last located around 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, along Highway 387 near the Natrona County line.
Gunter had moved to Casper from Nevada about a month before she vanished to be closer to her children, staying with the kids’ father and helping care for them. Kayla said the move seemed to be going well and her sister had given no sign she intended to leave or cut off contact — the two typically spoke by phone at least three times a day.
In posts on Facebook in the days before she disappeared, Gunter wrote “Success for me, happens in silence,” and in June had written about “focusing on a better me. Again,” accompanied by a heart-mending emoji.
A Facebook user identified as TK Kentopp wrote early Saturday morning: “I looked so hard but there’s so much wide open spaces with one set of sad eyes hope you’re okay!! 14 years you’ve been in my life and can’t end it like this Kandice Gunter.”
Gunter is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 185 pounds, with black hair, blue eyes and a butterfly tattoo on her neck.
Anyone with information on Gunter’s whereabouts or the pickup is asked to call the Casper Police Department at 307-235-8278. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Central Wyoming at 307-577-8477 or at crimestopperscasper.org.
