NYU Langone Health’s Manhattan campus has been named the nation’s top comprehensive academic medical center by Vizient, a healthcare improvement company, marking the first time any health system has held the No. 1 spot in this category for five consecutive years. The ranking, released Wednesday, put NYU Langone ahead of more than 120 institutions nationwide.
Vizient’s Quality and Accountability Study evaluates more than 1,000 hospitals and healthcare organizations across the country each year, scoring them on six metrics: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. The organization then applies statistical analysis to rank hospitals within their peer groups.
Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health, credited the health system’s staff for the repeated recognition.
“When patients look for the best place to receive their care, nothing matters more than quality and safety. Vizient understands that. That’s why NYU Langone is exceedingly proud of our teams, whose shared commitment to the highest standards led to this incredible, repeated recognition.”
NYU Langone also performed well in other Vizient categories. Its network of more than 400 ambulatory practices received the highest rating among physician practice networks nationwide, out of 70 participating organizations. These outpatient facilities offer primary, specialty and surgical care along with routine imaging and lab work, without requiring an overnight hospital stay.
Several of NYU Langone’s inpatient facilities in Brooklyn and on Long Island also earned high marks in their respective categories.
Last year, other New York-area systems also scored highly in Vizient’s rankings, including Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center, and several hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian system, such as Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The Vizient results follow closely on the heels of another honor: less than two months ago, NYU Langone Hospitals were named to US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2026-2027, a list of 20 medical centers the outlet says excel in complex specialty care, procedural outcomes, nursing quality and patient experience.
