[responsivevoice_button voice=”UK English Female” buttontext=”Listen to Post”]Well, here’s a story that might make you scratch your head. You’d think by now, the news cycle would have moved on, but here we are, talking about George Floyd again. It’s like a plot twist no one saw coming.
George Floyd, as you might remember, was a 46-year-old Black American man in Minneapolis. His death on May 25, 2020, came after a police incident involving former officer Derek Chauvin, who was later convicted of his murder. Even CNN pointed out back in 2021 that factors like heart disease and fentanyl in Floyd’s system played a role in his death.
Fast forward to a recent Socialism 2025 conference, where the University of Houston’s Professor David McNally made some eye-popping suggestions. McNally, with a straight face, proposed renaming his university to “George Floyd University.” Yes, you read that right—George Floyd University.
McNally didn’t stop there; he also advocated for eliminating tuition and scrapping the university’s traditional grading system. Decked out in a keffiyeh, McNally spoke about resisting state authority by fostering a large-scale activist movement. The audacity of these proposals raises more than a few eyebrows.
During his speech, McNally recalled a Black Lives Matter protest in Houston back in June 2020. He described a moment when police officers were overwhelmed by protesters, claiming, “All of a sudden you got a glimpse of what it means when we control the streets.” It’s a romanticized view of a chaotic event.
Now, McNally is about as white as they come, so his “we” might raise some questions. Given the intensity of some Black Lives Matter protests following Floyd’s death, one wonders how he might have fared if things had turned differently. But let’s not stray too far into hypotheticals.
Among McNally’s other ideas was the abolition of campus police, replacing them with “democratically constituted and elected safety committees.” He also suggested restoring the university’s LGBTQ+ center and declaring the school a “sanctuary campus” free from ICE officers.
In a nutshell, McNally envisions a sort of utopian campus for everyone. He wants to fight for the abolition of tuition and grades, making education more accessible, in his view. It’s a radical vision, no doubt.
Social media user “Citizen Journalist Stu” chronicled McNally’s socialist vision in a post on X, along with video snippets of the speech. Stu highlighted points like making the school a sanctuary campus and advocating for divestment from certain investments.
Stu’s post also covered McNally’s desire to replace campus police with safety committees. He wants to restore and fund activist centers, such as reviving the LGBTQ+ center, and push for community control over the university.
McNally’s idea of renaming the institution to honor George Floyd adds another layer to his vision. Floyd, who grew up in Houston’s Third Ward, has become a symbol for McNally’s proposed changes. The suggestion has sparked a lot of conversations.
Though McNally’s ideas might seem far-fetched to some, they’re rooted in his belief in an “insurgent social movement” taking control of the university. For him, these aren’t just abstract notions; they’re a blueprint for change.
Stu, the social media chronicler, deserves a nod for enduring the entire video, saving others the effort. It seems like these days, this is what passes as the norm in the world of news.
As discussions continue, it’s clear that the Democratic Party’s popularity has been waning. Many voters are pushing back against their globalist agenda. It’s a pivotal moment in American politics.
For those interested in supporting conservative perspectives, there’s a call to action to help expose Democratic plans. Joining the RedState VIP club with a discount offer might be a way to get involved.

The world is better off with felony convict and career criminal George Floyd dead. He did overwhelming more harm than good to society during his life. Just ask the guy he beat nearly to death during a home invasion.
