Speculation is mounting over who will fill Ohio’s vacant Senate seat, and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has emerged as a top contender. Reports indicate that former President Donald Trump is privately advocating for Ramaswamy, urging him to accept the appointment if offered by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
Multiple media outlets have confirmed that Trump is championing Ramaswamy for the role. Known for his ambitious ideas and sharp rhetoric, Ramaswamy, 39, has built a strong rapport with Trump. Despite withdrawing from the Republican primary race after the Iowa caucuses, Ramaswamy remains a prominent figure in GOP politics.
Trump’s backing could prove pivotal, but the decision ultimately lies with Governor DeWine. So far, DeWine’s office has remained tight-lipped. “Neither Governor DeWine nor our office has commented on any possible candidates for the pending appointment,” DeWine’s press secretary, Dan Tierney, said in a statement to CNN.
While Trump is reportedly urging Ramaswamy to consider the Senate appointment, Ramaswamy has expressed hesitation. His current focus is his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position he took on after withdrawing from the presidential race.
Ramaswamy and Elon Musk are spearheading a bold initiative to slash trillions of dollars from the federal budget. Their tenure at DOGE is set to continue until July 2025, which has led Ramaswamy to prioritize this project over a potential Senate bid.
Back in November, Ramaswamy publicly ruled himself out of the running for the Senate seat after Trump tapped him and Musk to lead DOGE. “This means I’m withdrawing myself from consideration for the pending Senate appointment in Ohio,” Ramaswamy said in a statement.
However, insiders suggest Ramaswamy may be reconsidering. A source close to him told CNN that he’s open to the appointment if there’s broad support for his candidacy. “If everyone wants him to replace [Senator J.D.] Vance, he’s willing to step up,” the source claimed.
Ramaswamy isn’t the only name in the mix. Other potential candidates include Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted and state GOP chair Jane Timken. Both are well-known figures in Ohio politics, with strong ties to the state’s Republican establishment.
Governor DeWine has emphasized the importance of selecting a candidate who understands Ohio’s unique challenges and can effectively advocate for the state in Washington. “I’m not ready to make an announcement yet, but the announcement will be coming soon,” DeWine told reporters on Thursday. “I want someone who understands Ohio, who has a deep knowledge of our state.”
DeWine has stated that a decision will likely be made by next week. The appointment is critical, as the new senator will replace J.D. Vance, whose tenure left a significant impact on Ohio politics.
Ramaswamy’s meteoric rise in politics has been marked by his unorthodox ideas and ability to connect with conservative voters. During his presidential campaign, he gained attention for his focus on dismantling bureaucratic overreach and promoting economic nationalism.
Despite bowing out of the presidential race early, Ramaswamy’s influence within the GOP has only grown. His collaboration with Musk at DOGE showcases his commitment to tackling federal inefficiency, a cause that resonates with many Republican voters.
However, accepting the Senate appointment could complicate Ramaswamy’s longer-term ambitions. He has hinted at running for Ohio governor in 2026, a move that would allow him to have a more direct impact on his home state’s policies.
As the clock ticks down to Governor DeWine’s decision, the political world is watching closely. If Ramaswamy does accept the Senate appointment, it would represent a significant pivot in his career. Trump’s support could give him an edge over other contenders, but the final decision will depend on DeWine’s evaluation of the candidates.
Ramaswamy’s current hesitation may reflect his broader political calculus. Balancing his commitments at DOGE with a potential Senate role—or a future gubernatorial campaign—requires careful consideration. For now, he remains a key figure in the unfolding drama surrounding Ohio’s vacant Senate seat.
Whatever decision he makes, Ramaswamy’s name will likely remain at the forefront of GOP politics. Whether in the Senate, at the helm of DOGE, or on the campaign trail for governor, his next move could reshape the political landscape in Ohio and beyond.

“….if it weren’t for the slow response?” Riddle me this then, Fire Hydrants are only effective if…..? Get there early, get there late, is a non-starter IF there is NO water! Additionally, it would appear many of these fires were being SET by the mentally deranged. Responding to more than two or three ‘set’ fires, with reduced manpower and equipment, no matter how quickly some additional fire was identified, proved an impossibility. As John Stossel would say, “GIVE ME A BREAK.”
Agreed!
Keep that H-1b supporter, MAGA back stabber, OUT of the Ohio Senate
