The Biden-Harris administration has come under fire over allegations that it concealed a crucial study on the impacts of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to justify halting permits for new natural gas projects.
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Republicans allege that the administration is stalling on releasing an internal study that could contradict its recent moratorium on LNG export projects, a policy critics claim will significantly harm the economy and the energy sector.
In January, the White House and the Department of Energy (DOE) implemented a pause on permits for LNG export projects. The Biden administration cited the need to review the environmental, economic, and national security impacts of these projects, with a final report expected in early 2025. Until the study is released, the moratorium effectively halts the approval of numerous fossil fuel initiatives. Republicans argue, however, that a report may already exist but is being concealed because it might weaken the administration’s justification for the moratorium.
According to a letter sent by House Oversight Committee Republicans to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, there is substantial evidence that the DOE already conducted an internal study on the effects of natural gas exports in 2023, months before the administration announced the moratorium. If this claim is accurate, critics say the administration’s move to suspend LNG permitting and cite an unfinished study could be an intentional effort to delay fossil fuel projects until it can justify its stance with a new, tailored report.
The committee’s letter pointed out that the DOE has repeatedly failed to cooperate with information requests from oversight officials, heightening suspicions. Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, characterized the situation as “a full-blown scandal.” He emphasized that withholding a potentially exculpatory study could constitute a misuse of authority intended to advance the administration’s anti-fossil-fuel agenda.
“This is not just about energy policy; this is about transparency and integrity in government,” Comer stated. “If there is a report contradicting the moratorium, the American people deserve to know about it.”
The House Oversight Committee’s scrutiny follows actions by Government Accountability & Oversight (GAO), a watchdog group that in June 2023 filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the DOE, asking for any federal study on natural gas exports conducted last year. Despite the FOIA request, GAO has alleged that the DOE failed to respond adequately, leading the watchdog group to file a lawsuit against the agency, accusing it of deliberately stalling the request. Republicans on the committee believe that the DOE’s lack of response further supports suspicions that the Biden-Harris administration may be using federal policy and information control to further its environmental agenda.
The administration has previously faced criticism for its energy policies, which aim to shift the country away from fossil fuels and promote cleaner alternatives, like electric vehicles and renewable energy sources. This agenda includes phasing out gas-powered cars, limiting oil and gas leasing on federal lands, and tightening emissions regulations on traditional power plants. The moratorium on LNG export projects represents the administration’s latest effort to reduce fossil fuel reliance, but opponents argue that such actions ignore current energy needs and harm economic prospects.
Critics of the moratorium argue that LNG exports are critical to the U.S. economy, with many projects projected to generate billions of dollars and support hundreds of thousands of jobs. The industry also maintains that LNG exports support U.S. allies by offering them alternative energy sources to reduce dependence on hostile nations. Halting LNG permits, they say, undermines both American energy independence and national security. Supporters of the administration’s policies, however, assert that a move away from fossil fuels is essential to curb greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
The Republican-led Oversight Committee contends that the administration’s decision to pause LNG permits without releasing an existing report, if it indeed exists, is a troubling indication of selective transparency. They claim that the administration may have preemptively decided to enforce the moratorium before examining the report’s findings. This, they argue, aligns with what they see as a pattern in the administration’s energy policy—one they believe is focused on limiting fossil fuel use, often at the expense of economic stability and energy security.
If the DOE possesses a study that suggests LNG exports are beneficial or at least neutral in terms of national security, economic impact, and environmental outcomes, the administration’s justification for the moratorium would be significantly weakened. For now, House Republicans, along with GAO, continue to press for the release of any report related to LNG export impacts to ensure that the moratorium is based on solid evidence rather than political motives.
In response, the DOE has not issued a formal comment on the allegations or the study’s existence but has reaffirmed its commitment to an energy transition that ensures both environmental sustainability and economic resilience. Whether or not the alleged report will surface remains uncertain, but the situation continues to develop as House Republicans increase pressure on the administration for transparency.
As this conflict unfolds, the battle over U.S. energy policy and transparency in decision-making remains in the spotlight. Should the Oversight Committee uncover evidence of intentional document suppression, the administration could face considerable backlash, particularly as energy prices and economic stability remain top concerns for Americans.

When the government hides the results of a study, you can bet it is NOT in support of what they are doing. Same story with recent study on Puberty Blockers NOT RESEASED. Wonder why? Most likely refuted the preferred government position. Hopefully, Trump will release these documents and we can get more transparency in our government. Right now we are victims of a Marxist propaganda regime.
yes … lets do everything to make sure Trump wins … out with this current clown show . Make America safe and great again .
