The Indianapolis Colts fell to 2-8 after losing 42-7 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road, a blowout that came as trade speculation swirls around star running back Jonathan Taylor.
Taylor, a three-time Pro Bowler, was held to just 23 yards on eight carries and lost a fumble on a botched trick play. He remains the last player to rush for 100 yards in a game against the Jaguars, a mark he hit in the 2024 regular-season finale.
The loss dropped Indianapolis to 2-6 on the season. The team has been shedding talent, having recently traded away guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Taylor is widely regarded as the most valuable player left on the roster, and rumors have linked him to the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, both of whom currently sit atop their divisions.
Reports indicate the Colts have already turned down a trade offer for Taylor that was said to be in the range of a second-round draft pick.
A Lopsided Rivalry Game
Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, Bayshul Tuten scored twice, and Rayuan Lane returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the second quarter. The Jaguars built a 28-0 halftime lead, the third-largest in franchise history.
The result extended a painful streak for Indianapolis: the Colts have not won at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville since 2014, a run of 12 straight losses there that includes a 2016 game played in London. Even in some of Jacksonville’s weakest seasons — including a one-win year in 2020 and two separate three-win campaigns — the Jaguars still managed to beat the Colts at home.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown to Josh Downs but threw two interceptions and was benched in the fourth quarter in favor of Anthony Richardson.
Indianapolis is scheduled to host the Dallas Cowboys next week. Whether Jonathan Taylor will still be wearing a Colts uniform by then remains an open question.
