The World Health Organization, which has strong ties with China, declared a global emergency today due to a recent outbreak of monkeypox (mpox) in Africa.
This announcement comes less than three months before the upcoming U.S. presidential election.
According to CNN, WHO held an emergency meeting to discuss the spread of a more dangerous strain of the virus into four additional regions in Africa.
The outbreak has led to over 17,000 cases and more than 500 deaths across 13 African countries since the start of 2024.
Previously confined to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the monkeypox outbreak has now raised serious concerns globally.
A panel of independent experts met virtually on Wednesday and advised WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the severity of the situation.
Following this discussion, Ghebreyesus declared a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), the highest level of health alert under international law.
WATCH:
As reported by CNN, the World Health Organization (WHO) designates a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) status to “unusual events” that present a global health risk through the spread of disease. These outbreaks typically necessitate a coordinated international response.
CNN also states that WHO has previously approved the Emergency Use Listing process for monkeypox vaccines and has implemented a regional response plan requiring $15 million in funding, with $1.45 million already distributed.
The current strain of monkeypox is more deadly than the previous one that entered the United States in 2022. Symptoms include fever, painful rash, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and extreme fatigue.
Unlike COVID-19, monkeypox is not airborne and is less contagious. It spreads through close contact such as kissing, touching, and sexual intercourse with an infected individual. The virus is primarily transmitted through sex and is disproportionately affecting gay and bisexual men as with the previous strain.
While no cases of the new variant have been reported in the U.S. yet, the CDC is urging doctors to be vigilant for symptoms like skin rashes and lesions. No other continent has reported infections at this point either.
It’s unclear why WHO declared a global health emergency instead of one limited to African countries given these facts, which may lead to speculation about other potential motives.

All travel out of countries infected should be halted immediately to keep it contained.
The current administration in the US won’t do that. They will use this, as they did with covid, to undermine the US Presidential election. This time around, they will use any method they need to corrupt the voting process. Shut down all US borders before this has a chance to take hold on US soil.
